In a movie trailer voice: Get ready for unrealistic expectations due to 2-sentence-speculative descriptions and endless moaning when they’re not met.
Kinda done with rumours tbh. It’s just more waiting.
Watched the trailer for Redfall multiple times and have yet to see anything that makes anywhere near similar to Left 4 Dead. I am still confused as to where people are getting this comparison. There are no hordes of enemies coming at you constantly , most of the gameplay shown has been one character slowly infiltrating a church or sniping gun toting enemies from a far. Each character seems to have a class or ability they use , co op seems deemphasized. What about that looks anything like a Left 4 Dead “clone”?
First person, 4 characters, fight / defend against a lot of monsters? I think L4D comparison will stick with Redfall for quite some time.
You can make any comparison you want, doesn’t mean it makes any sense. It’s an Arkane Immsersive Sim that lets you play in co-op for the first time. Left 4 Dead is fast, loose, and features hundreds of enemies at a time in a meat grinder approach. They’re just not similar at all in practice.

The only reason that that the L4D comparison will stick is that people will choose to be willfully obtuse. It’s a not so subtle way for people to take a shot at Redfall for not being exactly like other Arkane games.
Where were they shown to be defending against a horde of monsters in any of the gameplay previews?
In gameplay videos they are fighting against a bunch of monsters coming at them. It was not a horde - sure - but so what? Anyway I expect this game being more successful than previous Arkane titles even if I prefer another Dishonored instead ![]()
Not L4D related er I mean Redfall, but MS seriously needs to start hyping up that state of play thing asap! Missing the Game Awards was a big mistake, they really need to start building hype for their event to regain a more positive public perception.
In an interview with GameSpot, Arkane Studio director Harvey Smith admitted that Redfall gets compared to Left 4 Dead every “once in a while.”
“But this is a big campaign that is persistent,” Smith told Gamespot. “And you play through the story and level your character up and you can do that alone or with other people. We love Left 4 Dead, but [Redfall] is not Left 4 Dead in any way really, other than colorful characters. When you play alone in our game, you have one character, there aren’t bots. We don’t have the whole party together.”
In a different interview with Polygon, Smith was hopeful that after the weekend’s gameplay demo, folks wouldn’t make the L4D comparison anymore.
“It should, unless I’m mistaken, it should put all the Left 4 Dead comparisons to rest,” said Smith.
We’ll see how it plays out because I’m of the opinion that when you release the game, the game becomes what the players think it is, not the developers.
BUT, as it stands. Arkane clearly does not want Redfall to be compared to L4D.
“Redfall Director mentions Left 4 Dead five times in recent interview about comparisons.”
Redfall plays nothing like l4d.
Also you guys have to stop forcing devs to make the same game over and over again. If arkane just released dishonered over and over or Bethesda or oblivion just makes fallout, talent will leave.
Developers don’t want to be stuck making the same shit. I guarantee you if Microsoft forced josh sawyer into making fallout games he would have left. Devs are passionate about what they want to make.
No they shouldn’t, they should set expectations and then exceed them. Every time they hype something up, people run with it an hype it to infinity. So when something they wanted doesn’t happen then they call the show a disappointment.
It’s something the Xbox community keeps doing to itself (made worse by ps fan boys) and Microsoft needs to keep them in check so they don’t go on Doom and Gloom patrol on social media.

That CGI trailer was a terrible way to introduce the game in hindsight and it’s why so many jumped to L4D comparisons and still do despite the most recent gameplay which shows it’s nothing like L4D
If you watch the gameplay redfall looks more like fallout 4 without the settlements/rpg mechanics with borderlands skills attach.
This is a good article about redfall.
Near the bottom he describes a situation like I had in fallout 4 recently about getting two different groups of enemies to fight.
Like when super mutants come across raiders in fallout is what it sounds like.
Yeah that was neat in Fallout 4. Could just sit back and wait til one side had wiped the other out then finish them off.
