Imo, there’s no way it will be out that early if they switch engines, I doubt it will be as simple as just transferring everything over. A better option I think is the MCC way of using the UE interface to interact with the Blam Engine, as it will allow everyone that’s more experienced in EU to work with unfamiliar systems.
A few days ago I was watching an interview with Josh Sawyer, he said he didn’t want to talk bad about UE5, but he dislikes the urge to jump into every new tech, and talked about the negative side of it.
Also talked about Bethesda’s engine and how it gets undeserved hate, and that they wouldn’t be able to make New Vegas without it.
I wish I was super excited for Redfall, but so far the trailers haven’t done a lot for me yet. I do like how some of the locations were twisted in the E3 video, they explained about that too in interviews but overall I’m just waiting to see how it turns out.
I am a Arkane fan, loved Prey, really enjoyed the Dishonored games. However when Prey was revealed it didn’t do much for me either, the demo sold me on it. Hope it’s the same case here. Just gotta play it!
I feel like Microsoft is making games way too deep and complicated for the press today when we look at games like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Starfield but also games like State of Decay they exploit systems, physics, emergent gameplay, actions not scripted by the game that can create unforeseen situations and emergent stories. The press doesn’t seem to understand the importance of these worlds like Minecraft. Grounded has been completely forgotten in 2022 when I have over 450 hours on it and it has amazing world building and full of systems it’s for me a much better Open World than Elden Ring with an interactive, living world physics, emergent gameplay, creativity, unforeseen situations I think it’s the kind of games I prefer and Microsoft seems to be the only one to create these types of persistent and immersive worlds
Press isn’t as important as a few years ago, in part due to gamepass but also with things like Twitch taking off massively, it’s much easier for a game to get exposure
Just look at High on Life, it broke records in spite of what critics had to say lol
But yea, I’m much more interested in games with complex systems in place vs big flashy cinematic stuff where that stuff almost always takes a back seat
If 343 ever allows the use of the campaign map in Forge, people are just going to recreate the entirety of Skyrim/Morrowind/Oblivion in it just because.
The biggest problem is resource budgets, I’ve been remaking stuff from Fallout and my maps have been pushing that budget as far as it can go and I imagine this map is no different. It might get better in time as they release more objects and tools that make more complex designs more efficient to make but we’re not gonna reach a point where people can suddenly remake vast areas from other games unless people make them really simple.
Great post, and it’s the reason why Xbox is my preferred platform. I much prefer games that give me an interesting world, then let me go about things the way I like, when I want, without being forever tied to a protagonist’s singular goal.
It’s not to say there isn’t a place for more linear experiences, but I’m damn happy Xbox has cultivated and allowed their studios to release quite a lot of these types of games.
