If you don’t compare it to other action games, maybe…
I personally hope the next Final Fantasy game goes back to being turn based, because these action ones just aren’t for me.
I just feel like you need to use more strategy, which characters to use and how you build their skill sets. It just in my opinion comes off as a JRPG, over trying to turn their games into a WRPG.
I view it as an epic like God of War. I felt that game was more epic than god of war. I can admit the combat system should be better, but I had fun with it once I got more abilities
4 big games and 4 small/medium games a year is more than doable, even if you don’t include CoD (I want 4 big games in addition to CoD, not including it).
Also, there’s virtually no chance that we don’t have more than 4 big games in 2025.
Yes, it is considering an assembly of 35+ studios, I suspect this year there will be more than one game each month in the second half of the year.
You only have to think about the currently known 6 games scheduled for 2024 are projected after june and we are only in january.
I also think there’s still a chance for more in 2024 (maybe South of Midnight, MAYBE Contraband, but if not then smaller stuff like Double Fine or Gears collection or remasters or something similar).
I wonder if Microsoft going to evaluate the Palworld phenomenon and consider to bring back Viva Pinata. I know many of us here talk about it, but feels weird Microsoft never explored that franchise because it does seem like a franchise that could thrive today
more than likely someone either has to request to do it or they(MS) send a request for proposal to get developers interested like how killer instinct 2013 came about
Yeah, current rare is most likely not touching it, and would have to go licensing out route. I think only somewhat similar game Rare would work on would be Everwild. Very interested to see which route they go with that game.
Everwild is supposedly similar to Viva Pinata so that’s something.
Launches like Palworld or Fall Guys (it’s too early to say Rocket League or Apex or Fortnite, etc) are almost impossible to replicate, I think studios should do what they feel is better for their strenght, going after trends is 99% a failing endavour. This games seems to have intercepted the Pokémond thirst with popular survival elements, very very unpredictable.
Oh for sure, not talking about exact copy, but there’s def room for games with animal like companions. Viva Pinata is more animal crossing than it is Palworld, and there’s def a market for animal crossing like games. I am unsure what Everwild is but some of the leaks made it sound like there are animal like companions
The only thing that matters is whenever they launch Everwild, it must be feature and content complete (at least for a season if it’s gaas), there won’t be a second renaissance like SoT this industry climate around everything Xbox.
For me this is the best overview of what we have of Everwild yet.
For me it will be a simulation of a living world like animals and flora I am thinking of things like RDR2 if you look at the fauna in this game it is alive, the animals hunt, sleep they make their own life in the world if you look Grounded from Obsidian insects also have their own behavior. the ants come to steal from our chests and they will bring our resources into the anthill, the ants are attracted by the food that we cook, the ants lay eggs, the spiders hunt other insects, sometimes they sleep during the day. I think Everwild will focus its entire concept around the life of flora and fauna.
For example in the video Rayan Stevenson explains that this creature is inspired by the elephant and that in the world of Everwild it tears up trees with its tail to feed, it is something it will do automatically but we can also tame it to ask him to help us. Will there be construction in Everwild? Maybe… the fact that Rare developers are playing Palia and the latest Sea of Thieves updates to decorate our ships with various objects makes me think that Everwild could have Housing and a farming system to cultivate plants and that sort of thing. We see a lot of babies in the 2 trailers so it seems that the creatures can reproduce (like in Viva Pinata) finally a game that could be a lot like Everwild in my opinion is Towers of Agasba but I think that Everwild will be much richer in system but the idea of restoring a ruined world devoured by insects and replanting seeds, developing ecosystems for creatures like Viva Pinata ultimately but on a much larger scale with a lot of Lore in the environment like Sea of Thieves, species of deities or spirits… Everwild will be special I completely trust Rare.
That Everwild art style. ![]()
Will it have guns though?
Whooooa, I didn’t know this director’s commentary existed!
Sometimes I think people really don’t listen to what the studios say to us out loud. I see people predict, wish and hope that Rare make Everwild a Pokemon-like or a Viva Pinata spiritual successor, or whatever. When Rare’s whole thing now (and I’d argue always have been) is making games that no one else makes, and never making the same game twice.
Whatever Everwild ends up being, I can bet that it will be its own thing, not following any industry trend or popular genre or be a call back to an old Rare IP.
We do “know” (from reliable reporters) that Everwild is Viva Pinata-esque in its current form. I don’t think that makes it a spirutual successor, and it will obviously still be its own thing with its own mechanics and such, but I think the comparison is apt.
Still, I do agree that Rare won’t make something that’s like anything else. They are living up to them being the new IP factory they were labeled as years ago.
I agree, but Everwild will be harshly scrutinised for three reasons:
- Xbox “tax” and that’s a given
- announced in november 2019, oldest Xbox game in the current timeline
- sot launch
It’ll need to be almost perfect to stand a chance of not being demolished by media pundits unfortunately. And we know that stupid bias, while not sufficient to bury a game (look at Starfield success), it can hamper its reach a little because of internet negative echo chamber (also Starfield).
