We don’t “know”, Andy Robinsons said that last he heard it was more Viva Pinata than a survival game (which was the assumption about it). Does that mean it’s a Viva Pinata spiritual successor, most likely not, what it likely hints at is that it’s more about management of species and natural systems in a shared world than traditional usually personal survival aspects.
I really think it’s going to wow people when it comes back. Those trailers are amazing and if the actual game is anything like them, I think it’s going to be special.
Whenever it does come back, they should show it and release it within 6-12 months, even if that means holding it until next year’s showcase.
That’s why I said “know” in quotes. But Andy is a very reliable source so I think he’s probably correct.
I said that it won’t be a spiritual successor but I still think it will/can have similar elements and appeal to those fans.
I don’t think Everwild will have any combat or weapons and that’s what would make it great. Today I don’t see a single open world adventure game that doesn’t offer combat (combat seems to be the most important thing for players to have fun; there is some in Zelda, The Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Sea of Thieves, Assassin’s Creed, Dragon’s Dogma… ) Generally as players we hurt/kill animals, creatures in these games but we don’t take care of them and I think Everwild wants to convey this message rather than destroying a world, let’s protect it together.
I think this year should be the time, it’s been forever for this game, SOD 3 and Perfect Dark. I hope they can all release within 2025, 5-6 years since announce is already a huge gap.
I’d honestly welcome a june showcase with “only” already announced stuff, all scheduled for 2025 at most. The list is very long: outside the already mentioned above, we have Fable, Clockwork, Midnight, TOW 2 (Obsidian is almost lock for 2025, the game is in development since end 2019, obviously we won’t see it before Avowed), Contraband, Age of Mythology Retold in addition to Beshesda and ABK stuff. 2025 lineup is already there.
I can’t remember the details but I vaguely remember someone reporting (maybe Andy) that no combat was the original vision but they were struggling to make it work, so they reigned that in a bit and now there will be some combat (although even if that’s true, I don’t expect it to be the focus).
I think SoD 3 and Perfect Dark are a given (as much as anything can be a given) but Everwild could go either way. It all depends on when it’s coming out. If it’s next year, then yes, but if it’s 2026, I could see them waiting.
Either way, at this year’s showcase I think we see PD, SoD 3, Fable, South of Midnight, TOW 2, Clockwork Revolution, Contraband and I think we also get Gears and id’s game announced (although I think they could be 2026 releases).
I did not actually see your quotes, sorry ![]()
I know Andy is a proper source, I’m considering what he’s heard but don’t think it’s confirmation of any way the game is gonna be. It could be more Viva Pinata in the same way it can be said that Sea of Thieves is more Assassin’s Creed Black Flag than… I don’t know some other shared world co-op experience ![]()
Yeah, if you think about it, the only owned studios outside abk which haven’t announced a new game are Coalition and idsoft. Maybe it can be also the time for a new Forza Horizon and Halo, at least some form of announce.
Forza nah, that’ll be next year’s showcase and come out in the fall, I think. Halo could really go either way, but if they announce something this year it’ll probably be a very early teaser.
If the current wave is Hellblade, Ara, Avowed, Indy, Towerborne and MSFS, then the next wave is Fable, SoD 3, Clockwork, SoM, TOW 2, Contraband, and maybe the wave after that is Perfect Dark, Everwild, id’s game (Quake?) and Gears (with unannounced stuff sprinkled throughout).
Then the wave AFTER THAT will be stuff like Blade and Arkane Austin’s game and TES VI and stuff.
Edit: I could also see Clockwork being a 2026 game.
I don’t think that’s correct.
- 343 - they’ve announced they’re working on new projects, but not what they are
- Arkane Austin
- Roundhouse (though it’s possible they’re only a support studio for Arkane Austin)
- Tango
- Double Fine
All unacconted for.
We’ll see, I keep thinking games announced in 2019-20 should not release after 2025 at the latest, because the longer they wait, they harsher will be the criticism unfortunately, it’s one of the instances it would be fair play for the media.
I forgot Double Fine, but the others:
- Arkane Austin has released Redfall last year, it’s too early for them, expecially after a disaster like that
- Roundhous seems to be a support studio only until further notice
- Tango it’s the same as Arkane Austin, they released 2 games in 1 year, give them time
- 343 is like Coalition: everybody and their mothers know they are working on the next installment of the saga, but their gaas is still in active development, unlike Gears 5, I guess they can wait. The thing with Halo is that the pressure is lower with a bigger Xbox organisation, but they MUST release a complete Halo experience next time, not complete within 1-2 years (Infinite took longer than 5 to be whole and it’s not a good look), the IP is at risk of diminishing itself if another entry is controversial among core audience
I don’t disagree about that. I think the majority will release by the end of 2025, but there may be a few stragglers (Perfect Dark and Everwild being the most likely candidates I think; maybe Clockwork but that was only announced last year so it’s not a big deal).
I just hope they don’t metaphorically blow their load early and we end up with a quiet 2026 as that will just ruin their momentum again!
I really don’t think that’s likely, especially with the unannounced stuff we know is coming and not to mention the unannounced stuff we don’t even know about.
If 2025 is Fable, South of Midnight, State of Decay 3, The Outer Worlds 2, Contraband and Forza Horizon 6 (an all-timer year) and 2026 is Perfect Dark, Everwild, Clockwork Revolution, Gears of War 6, id’s game (Quake) and whatever else we don’t know about, that’s two back-to-back best Xbox years in history.
Most of the remaining games seem to be likely ready for 2025. Like, in insane number of games are definitely gonna be ready then, so I wonder if they’re gonna actually do some pushing back of releases so not to overwhelm lol
There’s alwasy something behind schedule, so I don’t think there’s a risk to overwhelm. With XGS, Bethesda and AB (K is mobile only) aligned, there should be at least 8 new releases each year: even considering 5 years to ship a game (average time between 3 for smaller games and 7 for new studios/huge games), with the amount of studios they have, it’s a very conservative number.
Yeah, 2024 is only the start and it already seems huge. My personal guess is that from now on XGS will ship 5-6 games yearly (between internal studios and publishing), the other spots will be covered by Bethesda (1-2 each year at most, they have half studios compared to XGS and they don’t do anymore external publishing) and 1-2 from AB (the yearly cod and the other one-offs releases among Activision properties and Blizzard games).
If you look at 2024, you already have this schedule: 5 from XGS (Ara, Avowed, Flight Sim, Hellblade 2 and Towerborne), 1 from Bethesda (Indiana) and 1 from Activision (COD). I think there will be 1-2 surprises at most (on the smaller end, like DF rumoured game and/or the notorious Gears Collection thing).
My guess:
2025: Gears 6, Fable, Perfect Dark, South of Midnight, Age of Mythology: Retold, Project Odyssey (Blizzard’s survival game), The Outer Worlds 2, Contraband
2026: State of Decay 3, Everwild, next iD game, Clockwork Revolution, Project Mara…
Of course, there’s always room for other games to be announced (Double Fine, etc.).
P.S. I still see Forza Horizon 6 coming out in 2024, although 2025 is very plausible too.
Imo they should take more time with FH6, FH5 is still going strong (biggest XGS game outside the unreachable Minecraft, bigger than HI, SoT and the other current gaas) and it doesn’t seem “needed” for this year: there are already 5 AAA expected releases (Avowed, Flight Sim 24, Hellblade 2, Indy and COD), IF there’ll be another 2024 surprise release, I’d expect something on the smaller end like Ara and Towerborne.
The main reasons I do think Fh6 still comes out this year is that they didn’t make more major dlcs for fh5 but just the normal two, and that up until 5 which had three years, all the games including the first have only taken two years. So they would have had three years if it released this fall, which is already taking their time compared to their normal dev cycle (that said it wouldn’t surprise me if they stuck with three in the future or changed how they add paid content). I don’t deny that it’s still going strong though, I play every week though current players seems to have dropped off a bit since I don’t often see people joining me in the events that kick off every 15 minutes, but I don’t see them taking four years for FH6.
If they extend in the future, I’d expect them to release at least a third major paid dlc
