Xbox “Has Not Yet Fully Embraced Switch 2” According to Ex-Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aimé, Who’s Surprised Microsoft Hasn’t “Easily” Ported More Games (GamesRadar)

In an interview with The Game Business, former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé claims he has been surprised by Microsoft’s decision to port fewer games to Nintendo than PlayStation. “I’m surprised that Xbox has not yet fully embraced Switch 2 from a software perspective,” Fils-Aimé says. “Certainly some games could easily be ported over to Switch 2. And I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more of that.”

In particular Fils-Aimé was expecting Xbox to have a large lineup of Switch 2 games ready for the end of the year, but the company has failed to match his expectation. “I thought there would be much more,” Fils-Aimé says. “Especially during this timeframe leading into the holidays. All through the fall, I was fully expecting some dedicated announcement, and I’m surprised it hasn’t happened.”

How long is a launch window? Thinking we still in it. There is a strategy to stay out of that. User base is the smallest it will ever be and a huge percentage of the early adopters by the system and a Nintendo published game like mk or dk. Cod and Minecraft will prob be the priorities. Surprised one of those didn’t make it into this holiday.

Reggie’s clearly missed the fact that developers across the industry have been telling “journalists” that their studios don’t have Swith 2 dev kits…

I was going to say…nice to see that this turd is paying attention to what is going on before opening his mouth.

That’s literally what anyone can do when it comes to Xbox: have no clue what you’re talking about, completely ignorant to current events, trends, etc. - but if it’s bad for Xbox, reality and truth be damned!

The media will lap it up while shoving all the context and other stories that contradict these baseless statements under the rug. Corporate media need to go the way of the dinosaurs, along with fascism, racism, etc. (all of which the corporate media help foment and propagate).

Is it somehow Xbox’s responsibility to rescue the Switch 2’s anemic launch lineup? Like what is the expectation here?

End of story. Reggie, the media, and all the idiots parroting yet another baseless accusation at Xbox (for those that are braindead, there’s plenty to justly criticize Xbox for and I will happily do so) can kindly fuck off.

Nintendo is literally telling developers to use Swith 1 kits still and not to expect Switch 2 kits soon, but somehow this is Xbox’s fault? Meteor 2026 ffs.

Devkit issue aside (which is still a lame excuse to me that one of the biggest video game companies cant get devkits from their Redmond buddies) i also think there is a resource issue at play. I mean even the upcoming Forza Horizon 6 isnt coming to PS5 day and date, its coming later

Why on earth would you assume that’s not to capitalize on the Xbox/PC and overlapping GamePass crowd first… as they’ve done with almost every other released-on-PS Xbox title?

If you’re saying you don’t believe the “excuse” that this isn’t Xbox’s fault, sure Jan. In case you’re somehow new to Nintendo’s ways, they care about their offerings first and foremost and everything third-party has always been third-fiddle to Nintendo.

This won’t certainly backfire on nintendo long term, no way. See the sarcasm there

Also, of course xbox would prioritize xbox and pc instead of playstation, cause the amount of sales they made there is trivial to the amount of sales they get on their ec osystem as well as pc gamers is far bigger. You also have to take into account that they will prioritized their ecosystem before anyother, its just that pc is also part of that ecosystem.

I also find it funny how many in the media journalist side also ignore the fact that xbox is still on case by case basis on games going to other places outside of their own and it will continue to do so for a while at the very least.

Probably until everything in the gaming industry matures(Most likley between five to ten years, i know am kinda being a pessismist but i doubt it matures anytime soon) well enough that having an exclusive one or two don’t jeoperdized them.

I mean gaming is evolving in the same way tv series or movies are distribuited among consumers, that is where this is all headed and nintendo and playstation are in for a gruesome wake up call in the coming years.

It’s a headscratcher how a few indie devs have managed to update their years old games for Switch 2 and yet the big studios are still waiting.

Well considering that the console has been out for more than half a year and it still only has a handful of Switch 2 upgrades, most of which are from Japanese developers, I’d say the reality paints the damning picture clearly enough…

More games received Smart Delivery/upgrades for Xbox Series in the first two months…

Well said @Knottian and I agree with all of your posts.

Seems to be their responsibility to make sure everything is on PS5 though, anyway, I think Microsoft made a deal with Nintendo to get COD on Switch 2 and I hope they’re not forced to, it’s a weak, outdated system and Xbox devs shouldn’t be forced to have to release their games on it, all it will do is force Xbox devs to make heavy sacrifices just to get their games on a console where they probably won’t even sell well anyway since the audience there probably isn’t the same as Xbox and PS.

Switch 2 isn’t weak. I played Cyberpunk and Star Wars Outlaws and if I posted screenshots here, you would think it is from Series S. It’s more powerful than a Steamdeck. Power isn’t the issue anymore.

It’s not strong enough to not be a problem to developers trying to develop games for top hardware and already have to deal with Series S.

I thought so too, until I got one in my hands. Indiana Jones is coming to this little thing next year, so we’ll see how it performs, but again, it’s not about power but optimizations. We’ve got impossible ports on Switch 1, like Witcher 3 and DOOM Eternal. Devs will make it work, as always, if the demand is there.

I mean if we’re speaking of COD that’s still releasing on last gen. It still has to run on the base Xbox One. Doesn’t feel like the biggest stretch. Next year’s COD might be more of a question.

The clout & credibility we give to random takes from former execs is WILD. These people are literally just talking. And they don’t really have any insider information anymore, that we know of, they’ve retired.

There’s so much to say here - like why is Microsoft specifically obligated to be all in on Switch 2 support - but really to me, it’s who cares? We on this forum have talked a lot about potential reasons why AAA publishers haven’t supported the Switch 2 in mass. People have discussed wanting more games from Xbox on the Switch 2. This isn’t earth shattering, it just came from a former executives mouth and… I guess that needs an article and a headline. I don’t really get it. When I was on Nintendo, I wasn’t hooked into their news network so I’m only vaguely aware that people like Reggie. But even then it’d make more sense if the article came at it like “Reggie thinks consoles should share exclusives more.” or something.
