The article has been updated with Satya Nadella and Amy Hood’s quotes about the Xbox division.
I can’t say I feel anything about it yet, as the main thing I care about is that the studios and people working there aren’t affected by this too much.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella just commented about winning back consumers across Windows, Xbox, and more:
— Tom Warren (@tomwarren) April 29, 2026
"When it comes to our consumer business, we're doing the foundational work required to win back fans and strengthen engagement across Windows, Xbox, Bing, and Edge. In the…
They expect both windows and xbox down in the double digits next quarter, be ready for people to act like it’s a shocking thing in June ![]()
The quote is in the article now
You can see why they decided to revamp everything and I don’t mean just in Xbox.
2024’s Black Ops 6 was clearly too good lmao. Too much lined up at once making it such a huge release and big win for COD fans. It won’t be for a couple more earning calls until we see if Sharma’s changes really had a positive impact (the real test will be this year’s holiday season and those earnings won’t come out until next year).
Amy Hood’s Xbox/Gaming-related statements included, “…below expectations, driven by first-party content with impact across the platform.”
Guidance for Xbox’s FY26 Q3 was “an expected decline in the mid to single digits, against a prior year comparable performance, partially offset by a growth in Xbox Game Pass. Hardware revenue should decline year-over-year.“
Also umm, why did they remove COD and lower the price again? So there was growth and it did offset a decline driven by content not performing as well as last year? Did it not offset it enough? It kinda makes me put on my conspiracy hat and say Sharma just did it for the clout of “lower game pass” while actually still raising the price and finding a way to make people accept paying even more for COD than they need to. Well I guess that was for a quarter that’s kinda long past so maybe subscribers have dropped since then.
Xbox earnings today. While we have made progress expanding the business and our margins, player and revenue growth has not yet met our ambition. We know we have work to do to earn every player today and into the future.

I feel like this will just push the confusion because most gamers on Twitter especially don’t realize that the earnings aren’t in real time and are rather quite a bit in the past. It’s a nice “We’re all in this together and we’ll keep doing our best.” I guess.
Definitely. Things were going well until someone decided to put a 30 percent profit cap on things throwing everything into disarray. The same kind of stupid thing that they did with the xbox one launch. These things take time to fix.
Your conspiracy hat sounds about right to me. Removing COD just seems more like a gain for Microsoft and not for gamers and I don’t see it helping in the long run. It makes me believe the whole idea was to increase the price and bring about this make your plan which will be no doubt more expensive for those wanting the whole package.
Honestly, I feel she needs to tone it down the constant tweeting is good but to me is becoming something else. There should be other better ways to say something than twitter. It’s almost like she is fighting online or looking for one. I’d like to see the energy in other places.
A tweet or two a day isn’t going to change what she’s doing in her day job.
I just wish Twitter would die already. Like this type of update would be at home on LinkedIn. Put it there or anywhere. Just stop feeding the website formerly known as Twitter.
I’d say if if she was looking for a fight she’d have been more blunt and honest and just said, “FY26 Q3 doesn’t reflect any of the changes we’ve recently made and is largely under performing due to BO7 being a far worse recieved game than the phenomenal BO6; Activision has already outlined their plans to improve yearly COD releases.”
Instead she’s kinda just going along with it and being a little vague in a response that to me just seems a little too strategic. I think it is strategic. Satya also spoke about winning back core fans and responding to customer feedback. Everything Sharma has done has felt toward that. To go further it’s felt toward specifically getting rid of all the “bad vibes” surrounding Xbox especially on Twitter (which yeah, is probably why she’s on it). She’s not fighting these people, she’s giving them an olive branch and trying to turn them into positive voices. I’m just of the opinion that it’s better not to engage with the lot at all. Let them fester in a hateful feeding ground like Twitter; they’ll all eventually die when everyone grows tired of their negativity and then Twitter itself will finally die off.
Haha
. Lord. Yeah it seems like BO7 as a game is just underperforming and that’s leading to the downturn from BO6, which was like the most successful COD launch ever and it was in GPU at the $20 price. The earnings even saw YOY increases from 2023’s COD. If anything I think they were hoping to get even more people to sign up for GP for COD that way they could offset the yearly COD fluctuations (which maybe that’s a problem; Game Pass didn’t hurt COD, but Game Pass also didn’t save Microsoft from the COD problem of it determining gaming ups & downs so now they need another solution). Again Satya and Asha have talked about winning back core gamers and responding to customer feedback. It kinda makes everything feel a bit like smoke and mirrors as they just try to silence online negativity crowds. I get the feeling like we’re going to be paying more and complaining less
.
I can’t say I’m shocked with what Bond did to the brand. Hopfully things will improve by the end of the year
RIP Project Latitude. Xbox exclusives back on the table, as they need a reason to sell Xbox consoles.
True,
I agree with you. Who is that message for? Investors? Customers? Her staff? What is it communicating? An apology? Phil always publicly communicated way too much. She is picking up right where he left off.
I believe he tapped out last year. It was one of the reasons why I always posted with a shocking reaction that he posted. He only got involved in Blusky, the safe chamber.
