That sounds good to me. Xbox is better off spunned off as a subsidiary company. Ms doesnt know to manage none software products.
It would be the same as GitHub and LinkedIn, most likely. Not sure how much that changes. I did see AA games dying, though. Almost none of what they made the last 5 years was both a commercial and critical success in that space.
That makes the idea of no day one 1st party on game pass more feasible, so I’m clearly need to start planning my exit from the platform.
They just doubled down on Game Pass at the show, not sure this changes things quickly. Having fewer AA 1st party is replaced with AA 3rd party
Remakes of old games would be a good use of AA budget for now in my opinion. Alot of those old games need to be remad or rebooted and I can see them being moderate to high commercial success.
The smaller games like Expedition 33 could have been Xbox exclusives
I wonder if that budget increase is just them creating COD mines for their other IP using their smaller teams.
Expedition 33 had publisher in Kepler, I doubt they would have given up sales on Playstation and if rumors are true switch 2 soon.
I can understand focusing on bigger IP’s like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, etc. but the smaller studios like Obsidian should stay as is. I want an Avowed 2. Game was freaking great and is an AA game. I don’t want every game to be this way because they’re all the same.
You could play one Sony third person action adventure over the shoulder with stealth elements game and basically experience nearly their entire published library this generation.
Should Microsoft eliminate internal games like Kiln, Keeper, etc.? Yeah probably because they’re not dong anything at all but at the same time, who the hell ever thought that Grounded made by 15 people would have exploded and gotten a sequel? Definitely not me. lol
Also, Sony and Ubisoft has been focusing on doing this and yeah, it’s working wonders for them. Ubisoft is a fucking clusterfuck with horrible ownership/management/leadership and half of Sony’s studios can’t even ship a fucking game this generation. Hell, if it wasn’t for Insomniac, holy shit, Sony would barely have any games.
Good thing they hit it big with Helldivers 2 even though they fucked that game and Arrowhead over numerous times in 2+ years and MLB so they can have some recurring revenue saving their ass because it sure as hell isn’t coming from Marathon, Concord, Fairgames and Horizon Hunter’s Gathering. Or now Destiny 2.
Can’t speak for anyone else but for me personally, the difference is that im more confident in Microsoft’s AA games like from Obsidian, InXile, etc. because they’ve been games that I have wanted to play. Third party wise, Microsoft has done good for me but remains to be seen if it stays that way since it would probably cost them more money to get third party AA games day one as publishers will be aware that their own internal output would be decreasing.
This topic, the debate/discussion around Xbox and everything is what im talking about in general. THIS is the type of shit im personally sick and tired of because it literally never ends with Microsoft. It’s like, can’t we just get through one single generation as is and just enjoy it until the next?
Third parties are far less likely to want exclusivity deals. We’ve seen those dry up without full publishing over the course of this generation.
The plan is the plan until it isn’t as Sharma has said, so we don’t really know that they will stick with Game Pass as it currently is because they haven’t yet reverse course.
Having an exit strategy just seems sensible for me.
Wait a minute…who in the hell is The Information and am I wrong when I say they’ve been proved factually incorrect in the past and have a horrible accuracy percentage?
There is no exit strategy for one of the 300 biggest companies in the world, worth well over 100 billion.
They are generally reliable, no one is 100% accurate and the actual report is literally just “considering” but everyone is taking it as “planning” because the internet cannot f’ing read.
Well yeah, but since I only use their store, my strategy is just use other stores through Windows(Steam, Epic, Humble, Gog, Loaded). Maybe continue to buy from the Windows store if I continue with Microsoft rewards.
They can’t really force me to spend money on their store or continue paying for Game Pass. If I buy one of their games in another store I’ll make sure to do what the support the devs people do, where they wait until it’s like 12 usd before purchasing it.
Still in wait and see but, if game pass is gutted that’s my on

Still in wait and see though, just saving money for probably not Helix.
Okay. I thought it was one of those sites that makes up all this shit but reports it like it’s happening. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go with just their big IP’s. In fact, didn’t one of them mention this in the last week? Maybe im wrong. So much shit has been said by them and not by them that it’s just another reason why I wish they would all just stay quiet and do whatever it is that they’re going to do.
I don’t see them spinning off Xbox or anything like that because first and foremost, I don’t see any company having the money to acquire it all and the few that do like Apple, Google and Amazon, I just don’t see them jumping in.
That’s the age-old dilemma right. I can’t fault them for wanting to focus on already popular IP like Fallout, it’s the safer choice overall. But it also closes the door on the next Grounded or Sea of Thieves, big hits that weren’t obvious in advance.
Agreed. You really gotta just be lucky as hell and pick the right smaller games which is easier said than done. I just hope they don’t try making Obsidian or the smaller studios into something that they’re not.
