I agree but fighting game wise, what Street Fighter 6 does is original and innovative for the genre so I would be shocked if it gets snubbed just because of the genre.

Just the way they ignored Forza Horizon 5, which had every rights to be on the list, and how they tried to justify that, made me not consider their GOTY list anymore.

Well to be honest the handling of Diablo 4 post launch has been so bad I don’t mind it getting ignored

Very true.

I remember how RDR2 won awards left and right, and some people were like “of course RDR2 wins this one too…sigh” but that game genuinely deserved all the awards, it truly was the best in the aspects it was awarded for. It absolutely should have won GOTY.

Starfield because some of the lower scores…yeah I can sadly see it being the case too. If it does get nominated, it won’t win it from Zelda.

Certain PS exclusives had similar scores to Starfield but still got nominated and gathered a bunch of awards. It’s not about the scores. It’s about the logo on the cover.

It would be a big recognition for the CRPG genre finally. Larian also deserves the GOTY title as well.

The very reason I don’t take GOTY ( especially when it comes to the Keighly’s ) seriously. Game Awards ( much like Grammy’s and Academy ) are pointless anyway. I’ll never understand why people other than the possible recipients care about it. Won’t make whatever media better or worse if they win or lose.

But even if you do care, you look at the Grammy’s or the Academy Awards , various genres of movie or album can win a Album of the Year or an Academy Award ( at least the last time I checked. It’s been decades since I last watched either) whereas the VGA’s have categories but unless you’re game is some form of narrative driven action adventure ( preferably third person ) or an rpg , it can’t win GOTY. ( except that one year Overwatch got it. I enjoyed the tears from the sad dad crowd )

A well made game is a well made game , regardless of the genre but the videogame industry wants to be like Hollywood so badly.

I really wish people didn’t care about GOTY awards as much as they do. They’re meaningless and the obsession over them is incredibly tedious. In my opinion, any award that is based on subjective, and never fully explained, criteria is meaningless and should only be looked at as a form of light entertainment. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everything is taken so unbelievably serious that it sucks any fun out of the discussion and these awards become fodder for console warring assholes.

Also, the “Game Awards” is just a very long commercial/promotional vehicle that, to me, lessens the importance/prestige of these awards.

In essence, who actually cares about any of this?

Remember, Metro UK of all outlets is part of the Game Awards committee, don’t expect a fair(or unbiased) nominations. Like others said, don’t worry about GOTY and all that, it’s all popularity contests in the end of the day. How we determine the game is good is through playing it ourselves. The media unfortunately like to play the popularity or nostalgic angle, which is a shame but it gets them clicks and views I guess.

Personally I really don’t care about but I like it for the creators, they deserve it. But who wins in the end, I won’t lose any sleep over it if it’s not my favorite game or studio.

For The Game Awards, my 6 game prediction is -

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
2. Baldur’s Gate 3
3. Street Fighter 6
4. Marvel’s Spider Man 2
5. Sea of Stars or Octopath Traveler 2
6. Starfield

My prediction as to which game will win - Zelda.

My predictions will be based off the rankings of the games I played this year.

1. Zelda TOTK
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Hi Fi Rush
4. SW: Jedi Survivor
5. Starfield
6. Hogwarts

We’ll see how the games I haven’t played (Mirage, Dead Space, Forza, Spider-Man, BG3, Ocotopath Traveler 2, MK/SF) affect this list.
