No, they aren’t, but at least in my country all their games are fully localised, I can’t say the same for Xbox.
bro what are you even talking about lmao? nationalistic views?
if wanting local language support is nationalistic, then wanting everyone to learn english is imperialistic.
Ummm - where are you going, Mort?
Nah, man, as I said, most people really don’t know english, it’s as simple as that. I know it’s not really up with the times, but it’s a reality.
I think what’s being said is nationalism prevents an expansion of thoughts, ideas, and concepts. For instance it’s what prevents a large portion of Americans from learning or speaking any language other than English. It also prevents other languages from being taught at younger ages in public school systems. Flip that for other countries, but at least they teach multiple languages at the formative ages.
Jesus christ what is going on in here.

Lost in Translation…
Lol true. I just don’t know why it’s being used as an argument for why localization isn’t worth it.

In all seriousness at a minimum xbox should offer subtitle translations for as many games as it can when possible.
As for voice overs the funniest excuse has to be game freak with Pokemon saying there are too many languages as if its not the highest grossing franchise on earth.
Don’t mix nationalism with localization - please. This has taken a reasonable localization debate to whole new dimension.
US has its reasons, UK has its reasons, even Northern Europe has its reasons, but for someone in other parts of the world to not learn English and being labeled ignorant or not broad enough or just nationalistic is a not a great take .
I’ll challenge you folks one better - come and see how Netflix and Disney Plus are expanding, and you will understand that localization does not only mean only voice overs or subtitling, it means original content that might take the viewing platform to a whole new scale and being more accessible to people who will never have the economic reason to learn English beyond the 4 languages they already know.
I was taking a look at other publishers and how many languages they support.
MS seems to about par for the course, with Sony doing a banging job (the two games I checked had 20+ language options).
Other publishers generally had 10, or 11 while MS sits between 11-15 for the majority of their titles.
Psychonauts 2 is the outlier here with only 6 supported languages. I’m hoping that number goes up considerably before long.
I think they should offer subtitles in every language under the sun. I would be fine with vocals only in the native language, even if it’s not English. Not wanting to watch subs on a show is one thing, but on a game where you’re used to reading text anyway?
I wonder if we ever get games with less vocal work due to the increased costs associated with localization?
Xbox wants to have an easy accessibilty for everyone. They developed the fantastic adaptive controller. Language is another important example for accessibility
of all the languages in the world, you chose to speak facts.
Entirely agree with that. I was just offering up what I thought was being said.
I genuinely wish the public school system in the US offered me better opportunities instead of offering pathetic attempts at other languages only during the years of high-school when everyone is in that lazy teenager years.
Since the 90s I was always jealous of the international friends I met that had 4 to 6 languages under their belt.
A bit on your other point, I am hopefuly that game developers everywhere become successful. It brings the much needed variety and cultural impacts to more people.
I can personally tell you the flip-side of that. You don’t get good grades on any of the 4 to 6 languages in school. ![]()
PS - At least, I did not.
