Just listened to the weekend podcast Episode 92 where you are talking about id possibly hiring for a Quake reboot? While theorising what they could be working on @Sikamikanico reads out that @BRiT has mentioned Heretic/Hexen in the chat. @Shpeshal_Nick then questions if Hexen is owned by Bethesda with @Doncabesa clarifying that it was developed by Raven Software. Nick then praises Raven Software saying they are the one studio he would like Microsoft to pry away from Activision. Jesse then confirms that Hexen is owned by Activision and everyone is disappointed.
Can’t believe you guys had that conversation a couple of days before Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision/Blizzard

Here is the start of the take. it is fun to poke fun at people who get free games, who wouldn’t want to be paid to give various amounts of good or bad gaming takes? no person in games media makes a lot of money. I know he specifically said editors but you know the average person will take it to mean journalists.
What did you find so terrible about that?

He could have worded it better, yeah. But he has a point.
Gaming journalists are just commenters nowadays and produce mostly opinion pieces, especially when it’s about PlayStation vs Xbox which get more clicks and ad revenues.
The problem is : opinions have to be consistent. And these “journalists” are not. Not when it’s about Xbox.

Well for one most games media people I listen to praise xbox game pass so I really know who he’s talking about here.
I think part of it is they don’t want to switch main platforms again like they did in 2013

It’s an aggressive way of putting it and the word bias is pretty loaded generally. I do think that he was using it neutrally though. Not in a “these people are biased against the thing I like” way but in a “it’s almost impossible to stay purely objective when you talk about the value of a thing you got for free” way.

Imagine Call of Duty franchise finding a new leaf of life where they might not be annual releases so that the game can come out finished and more polished… just for @Shpeshal_Nick to still skip the cutscenes in the single player…
