XboxEra's 2025 Backlog Challenge |OT| Games...So Many Games!

I’ve held off so far. I almost wish we didn’t have this grace period to tempt me. Still, in the last couple of years I’ve gone from buying games weekly to (almost) exclusively playing what I’ve already got. Plus Game Pass, obviously. And PS+. And Google Play Pass. sigh

I’m not sure to be honest, haha. It started slowly with just a game or two, but then I saw some crazy good sales, looked at the wallet and thought… let’s go. I kinda went buck wild with it. Plus those Mega Man Collections consist of multiple games.

One thing is for sure, I won’t soon be like…“ah man. I’ve got nothing to play left.” :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Lol I’m still like that sometimes though when I finish a big game - what I often mean is "I don’t have more of that game to play and I was enjoying it :frowning: " or “I want to play more games exactly like it”.

In reality my backlog has some pretty huge games that I start then bounce off of - I’ve still not finished the first KCD as it’s a bit slow-going for me, but I’m still strongly tempted by KCD2…

So many games that I think I’d love to play so I buy, but the problem is I have adult money but adult time, whereas in the past I had teenage time for gaming but teenage money - wish Game Pass had existed when I was a kid lol

Yeah, sometimes, good sales are too good to pass up. And you definitely have plenty of games to play.

Congratulations to @Knottian who is the Backlog Champion of 2025! Been in the lead for most of the year so not completely unexpected  @Zip in second place and @SilentJay76 in third put up a good fight though! Most importantly though, most of us have made at least a small dent in the backlog over the year. Very well done, everyone! Thanks to everyone who has participated, whether you were along for the full ride or just a part of it. I will put up a thread for next year’s competition sometime before New Years, I hope you will join me once again!

Thank ye kindly, and for all those that were competing as well, you did great (I mean… minus @Staffy  ). This is honestly just in time too, I’ve been getting the itch all year and I will now have more personal funds going forward. So next year, I will probably compete… but expect my numbers to look more like Staffy’s

End of Year/Holiday sale better be announced soon, damnit. I’m ready to pick up some of the games I’ve missed this year!!! Following in the Way of Staffy next year.

Can we please get Staffy some sort of recognition for that massive achievement? And congrats @Knottian and everyone who participated, and thanks much @Mort for running things!

The Way of Staffy.

Also, reminder for everyone planning on participating in the 2026 challenge that the coming weeks, basically over the holiday sale, no points will be counted for- or against you as the competition is not running.

I second this, I was going to say I’m aiming for the Legendary Staffy Score next year, but I didn’t want him to take it negatively lol. I was genuinely impressed, and while I’ll be hopefully beating a lot more next year (though a fair amount won’t count because of emulation - I’m loving diving back into retro gaming as well), I do plan on supporting a lot more small teams and games overall next year.

@Staffy should be recognised indeed lmao.

Yeah, I will say I want more freedom to support little titles as well, there were a bunch of times I almost got stuff and so I tried to make a list but it might have meant more at their release.

And we could do like Backlog Inverse Champion? Or something. I did like your Way of Staffy

The Way of Staffy Award then?

My final tally is probably inaccurate, I havent been around as much lately trying to get stuff done for work before the end of this week so I can go on holiday break till january.

Id guess it was probably closer to -10-12ish. Not staffy levels, and not as bad as it has been in the past (-25+), but still worse than indicated.

Just celebrated the end by buying KCD 2 lol after @Staffy raved about the series (I eventually put down the first one as the slow pace was getting to me).

Congrats everyone!

I think the accurate tally for me would be -17

I’ll change it for the records

and for record keeping I have combed through my email and I believe these are the ones I had not accounted for:

  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (+2)
  • Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
  • Terminator 2D: NO FATE (xbox)
  • Terminator 2D: NO FATE (Switch)
  • Thank Goodness You’re Here
  • Blood: Refreshed Supply
  • SteamWorld Heist II
  • SteamWorld Build
  • LEGO DC Super-Villains
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Gold Edition (won in the discord fist pumps vigorously)
  • Green Hell (Series X Version)
  • The Hong Kong Massacre
  • Charon’s Staircase
  • Children of Morta
  • Darkest Dungeon Ancestral Edition
  • Remothered: Broken Porcelin
  • The Casting of Frank Stone Deluxe Edition
  • Chorus
  • Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Editon
  • Heretic + Hexen

So I think the correct total is actually -24

Edit: Forgot Mario Galaxy Bundle
