This is a pattern with him, much like his “Game Pass deals are drying up” post not so long ago. Unsurprisingly, the fanboys on Resetera and elsewhere just blindly take what he says as gospel.
Exactly. Especially if something upsets you, stop seeking it out. There is NOTHING to be gained from it.
It seems like he got a bad Game Pass deal. He expected less players playing with GP and more copies sold. He may had a better deal later but damage was done.
My thought is, the number of publishers and developers putting their games on Game Pass, including Day One, continues to grow dramatically. So clearly it’s working for them. Not to mention, MS would end Game Pass instantly if it was bleeding the division. We know how fast MS is to axe non-profitable divisions and products.
What is a bad Game Pass deal. He got a deal that he agreed to and got paid the rest was upto him not Xbox. He should have been doing everything to market and spotlight his game, and he had other platforms to sell to. To me the really good games on Game Pass sell and now with Play Anywhere that might be another option to explore.
I feel someone reached out, made it clear that Microsoft can’t lie to their shit heads about the money they make, and that if he keeps insinuating that they are lying he would face consequences.

It is and it’s even more disappointing to see Dring et al become the de facto Fox News/ONN of the gaming sphere… all that disinformation and one-sided reporting certainly fits the mold perfectly.
One more remaster… That’s one way to keep your Studio afloat.
But seriously, too much.
The dude just out here playing the media for views. I think maybe Xbox needs to be a little more Nintendo like with the lawsuits on the media. Perhaps the industry needs to stop giving media games to review for free. They should be paying for the review copies, I think if they had to pay for thousands of games to review yearly, they would be less silly.
They would spin it into, game is clearly having trouble, they want to manipulate their score and coming in hot. Like they did with Bethesda for not giving review copies to media outlets that have proven to give bad reviews for discourse clicks.
It would also hurt smaller sites like Xboxera who generally struggle to be in most game review list.
The classic Chris Dring “rage bait then backpedal and say the opposite” maneuver.
I agree, that is a miscalculation on his part but that’s probably why he said it’s unsustainable. He had a bad experience and may have felt the need to vent a bit.
Problem is none of the other outlets who regurgitated what Dring said will be amending their news story and will just move on, and next time you talk to someone casual they’ll say they saw in their Facebook feed that Gamepass isn’t profitable.
Damage is done, which is exactly what he wanted.
It’s quite literally how disinformation works - spread the lie, knowing that it will spread far faster, then recant after every outlet/AP has regurgitated the story. Right-wing outlets have been doing this garbage for years, so to see it so commonly in the gaming sphere is just gross.
The lie spreads faster than the truth literally
I’m not sure but Halo Infinite has a new map that seems to pay homage to Tony Hawk. If so, that’s pretty cool.
Christopher Dring is a perfect example of exactly what’s wrong with gaming media.
Once Human looks really good and I actually forgot about this game so im happy that it’s coming to Xbox in 2026 and it seems like Dune Awakening is also coming to Xbox in 2026. Let’s go baby!!! ![]()
