No, not the FTC. This was like a senator or someone in response to the FTC and the trail. They were saying something like they agreed with the information that Microsoft’s Xbox seemed unfairly competed against and that they’d investigate Sony. I guess I kinda expected a right wing administration to try and weaponize that. Games are such a great gateway into state media.
The Xbox App on PC sounds like an Xbox now. Like it makes all the same sounds you get on console while navigating and opening icons.
If true I wonder if one of the reasons is the next Xbox system. It would be extremely petty of Sony, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s one of the factors.
Xbox is dead but Xbox is also the reason for major policy changes ![]()
I doubt anyone will do anything currently, as Sony can just “donate” to Trump to get it to go away.
Basically, Sony wants to be Nintendo.
You don’t understand, there are 10s of millions of Xbox One and PS4 owners that would have moved to PC. But now that Sony keeps exclusives to PS5, of course they will all move automatically to PS5 and in the process, kill the Xbox brand entirely. Sony 4D chess at its best!
Or something like that…
If only their games sold even half as well as Ninty’s.
Growth from the gaming industry is coming from China, Roblox, Game Pass and other subs.
Don’t see why they had to give IGN an exclusive, when they’ve successfully marketed on their own in the past. Their Let’s Go streams for FH5 were great.
Thinking this supports Xbox multiplatform on ps. Gotta sell to where the customers are. No other way to grow.
And shows Xbox moving into pc space looks like a smart thing. It’s not easy but at least they got the wheels in motion years ago. They are protecting the business in multiple ways for this gaming crash.
Sony on the other hand is going in a double down strategy. Think that will hurt them next gen with high hardware prices amplifying the situation.
I’m also in the camp predicting switch 2 won’t come close to switch 1 sales. Crazy times ahead.
Exactly my thought. Everyone seems to think it’s plausible that “Ghost of Yotei etc. playable on an Xbox branded device” was the reason for this policy shift.
But I thought the next Xbox hardware was dead in the water and no one was even considering buying it…?
Shroedinger’s Xbox indeed!
Good luck with that to them. Being Nintendo really means having far better margins with controlled costs. I don’t see how Sony of all publishers can pull back with the quality and scope they’ve insisted on having for their portfolio. Not to mention the money they’ve been bleeding recently trying to chase the live service online market.
I feel like this is like the worst possible choice they could make with the information they have on hand and just reflecting on what’s been happening this generation. I mean heck, there’s clearly a reason why they tried to get into the live service market and grow in PC in the first place. They have clearly not accomplished whatever it was that they needed to there, and the big brain play is just completely give up and go back to the thing they were doing before which also wasn’t working only now it will be even more expensive for them. None of the reasons why sales have slumped this generation are multiplatform releases and PC gamers aren’t suddenly going to NEED a PS5 for one or two games. Sony is going to have a very rude awakening
Don’t think this is about PC people moving to PS5-6 , at least in masses, or Sony trying to be Nintendo.
Switch’s first party vs third sales ratio was like 80-20%, last year for PS5 under 10% of all the game purchases were Sony games, they can never be close to Ninty’s margins when a huge part of the money they get is from third party stuff, be it games or MTX, which in reality they only own 30% of that, but IIRC Playstation is making more money than Nintendo nowadays, not sure if it’s still the case.
The plan is not to lose Playstation users to the PC, or even to get some old Xbox users to move on to their platform in the future.
It’s a shame they stopped porting to PC, i was interested in whatever ND makes, but with the low sales and the high risk, it’s understandable, this doesn’t mean they can change their strategy again in some years, probably after the PS6 has been in the market for quite a bit already
Sony has generally made more money than Nintendo(revenue), they just don’t keep as much money(profit). As their games are too expensive to make and market.
As for people moving to the PS5 or 6 in large numbers? I doubt it, as PC and mobile are the main growth sections currently and the PS5 isn’t doing better than the PS4. Making it seem like the market isn’t growing or shifting in favor of Sony.
I also just want gamers to understand that consoles aren’t growing: Nintendo and Sony’s actual strategy is to lock down their existing consumer base and maximize its value (as in get everyone to spend more money on their platform). A multiplatform strategy would actually push for growing the consumer base and spreading the cost. If Sony really doubles down like Nintendo then we’d have to see increases in costs for their games and probably more hardware price increases and possibly downgrades
It makes the most sense for Xbox to go PC with it since it’s their nature when you look back at its origin. Others can decide to be part of it, but lately, PC is slowly becoming a norm. Nintendo doesn’t have to worry for the time being. PS, we’ll see soon though they should not be surprised on why it didn’t work. Xbox makes too much sense. Going other platforms, I let you debate on that.
