Game Freak’s Beasts of Reincarnation had its release date of August 4 announced at the State of Play.
The state of play was alright, but seriously, what have Sony’s own studios been up to?
Speaking of them, I’m going to assume Fairgames is deadgames…..yeah.
Excellent show I thought. Even though not every game was for me, the whole show was entertaining to watch. And there were a lot of trailers for games I’m really interested in.
Yeah it was great!
Best news for me is that a new DOA is in production. Hopefully they look at DOA4/5 and not DOA 6 for inspiration.
B- for me.
Kena and John Wick were the standouts for me personally. Pragmata, Beast of Reincarnation, Resident Evil Requiem and 007: First Light were already on my list. The God of War Trilogy Remake is cool but no gameplay whatsoever and it’s in early development? So basically a cross-gen PS6/PS5 game.
It’s funny, when Microsoft would show a game YEARS away, everyone says they have nothing but when Sony does it, it’s completely ignored. Where’s Barlog’s new game? Where’s gameplay for Intergalactic? I know Bend and Bluepoint are dead until PS6. Sony needs more studios in my opinion because their live service direction which hasn’t worked for them at all and has shown me how horribly mismanaged their studios are nowadays.
I tend to associate the name with the event and this state of play of play has begun to exude just how irrelevant PlayStation is becoming. I can see stand-alone game trailers on YouTube what I want to see is the growth and excitement in the platform or ecosystem instead it feels pretty boring showing tons of games on a platform that offers no interesting features or anything new. With Xbox there are always new ways to play or experience the games. Perhaps it’s Play Anywhere which now is major deciding factor for me on what I buy not wanting to be limited to a specific place to play. When Xbox releases their next gen platform next year and maybe even something comparable this year of what relevance would be a PS5?
Actually, I think it makes things more exciting and freeing for the devs.
I honestly think it’s a good move to both rip the Bandai clean off and maximize the marketing. Xbox has been really successful in making their shows big in the industry (not just for Xbox). All gamers want to watch Xbox’s showcases and everyone gets excited about them. For games that are confirmed multiplatform or will be multiplatform, hiding where they launch at this stage just alienates the audience. Why would I as a non-PS5 owner bother to watch the show if it’s not even going to be clear what games are and aren’t exclusive ?
I really hoped we’d have moved on from “XYZ game is in development announcements by now.” It also feels kinda weird at a State of Play. Like if it were a big summer showcase I’d get it (give us more of a mix of short term and long term Playstation plans), but I’m not sure… why even?
I still remember everyone saying how Sony was allowed to show CG trailers for shit because they have a pedigree. Yet, five years later, we still haven’t seen an actual shred of Wolverine (remember that was 2020 people) and there have been over a dozen cancellations, and more than half a dozen Sony studios with nothing to show for the last five years…
My favorite part was where they showed a trailer for a God of War trilogy and the trailer was a voice actor saying “hey y’all, so anyway, this game doesn’t really exist currently, but it will someday…maybe…anyway…thanks for looking at this half assed logo. See you all in five years”
So…
Has anyone got the latest GoW? It was shadow dropped and I forgot it’s not GP. Lol. So, don’t want to spend $40 at this time since I don’t have much time to begin with. But, I would like to know how is it.
I agree completely and while Wolverine was shown in September 2021, it’s been 4 1/2 years since the reveal trailer and will be almost 5 years since the reveal when they show it again this Spring (probably at the May/June State of Play if I had to guess) but Sony gets a free pass every time.
When Microsoft shows a game years out like Fable/State of Decay 3 in July 2020, everyone asked when are they going to show the game. The favoritism for Sony and PlayStation is simply nuts. It’s definitely not a fair and level playing field. Never has been and never will be.
There was a Wolverine gameplay trailer four months ago.
Oh til; tbf my last 15 months… hell my last three years have arguably kept me pretty busy and the games news front hasn’t even remotely been a priority. Do we have an actual release date yet?
Regardless, it doesn’t change the greater problem at Sony, or any of the other facts. Despite having more studios than they’ve ever owned, they’ll end the PS5 generation having put out the least amount of new first-party content in any of their generations (I say new because I don’t count releasing TLOU and all of their games three times when the other players are actually developing new titles as well).
Insomniac “earned” their loyalty. “Naughty Dog knows what they’re doing with Factions”… and here’s this massive Game Awards showcase to highlight this massive game… that was cancelled a couple months later because it was apparently terrible.
I’ve heard it all and just like listening to Republicans and their false reality these days, I just disregard.
