I’ll try and stop by more often, I’ve just been double busy recently lol.
At least stop by for the unreal engine 5 demo the coalition will show on the 20th of July, might be really interesting
No, the game runs at around 30% higher resolution on Xbox and VRS works like that, the texture changes are designed not to perceivable. They had to do a 600% zoom to see it, for ducks sake lol. You won’t notice it when playing, Digital Foundry says that.
And also even those textures are probably going to look worse on PS5 anyway just because you have a 25-30% worse image quality lol
This^
Stop spreading fake news please. Also about that “zooming in” read above explanations.
This ^
Yeah I’ve got mega eyes on that event, gonna be very interesting. Coalition are the bee’s knees with UE, absolute masters of it. So what we see should be something special.
BUT… I fear it will be more… Lets say “attainable” visuals, and not fancy tech stuff that will never fully be utilised. In other words what they show could very well be perfectly possible ingame visuals, and as such they may get roasted by certain people because its not utterly bonkers.
I would keep my hopes high since this is Xbox’s answer to last year’s UE5 Demo in the making. This has been planned and intended all along IMO.
Well, of all people, you should know what to do with those people ![]()
Yeah I feel people around might be like “this doesn’t look like the valley of the ancient demo, the coalition is waning”
But I just wanna see the unreal engine implementations along with the dx12U feature set, they amazed me with their tier 2 vrs set up for hivebusters, I just wanna see the masters at work
Thank you. I tried to explain this multiple times above. Hopefully some of it finally sinks in.
Note: I’m also a developer, but not working on games anymore although I have in the past. No experience with VRS due to its newness.
VRS is good but people need to see its not a miracle cure. You don’t really get things for free in this game as you know. But, you know what people can be like.
Errrr, that person makes stuff up constantly. They also were not the first to point out PS5 ha no hw for VRS tier 2. I speculated as much in March of last year.
If VRS Tier 2 gives this much headroom, I want to see what Mesh Shading and SFS bring to the table. Maybe Series S will do proper RT due to memory being freed by SFS.
Just to clarify since ppl are (finally) starting to discuss VRS in games, it is not only true that VRS lets you save performance wrt framerates. It also allows devs to shift pixels around to add more detail within a given frame in specific areas where players are likely to be looking. In the former scenario, you get higher fps. In the latter, you get higher IQ. Tier 2 VRS allows for both of these use cases.
Pixel counting will become awkward and unhelpful in describing IQ on its own this cycle. Various reconstruction methods and upscaling approaches will muddy the water, as will good VRS use.
No one in these threads said it was “free”.
Ya’ll gotta stop trying to downplay a hardware feature just because it isn’t in one console.
He isn’t a Sony fanboy. Chillax. lol ![]()
Not saying he is, but there’s always a tone of “but…” in this thread, when objectively there is a performance gain due to to the hardware which is the intended use case.
You replied to the wrong person lol. I remember Gavin from his tweets last year.
I recommend everybody to read the developer’s explanation, you learn a lot about how games are rendered. Traditionally and including PS5, all mip maps are loaded but on Series X what is far away and doesn’t require it, only the necessary mip maps are loaded (Sampler Feedback Streaming) and this saves a huge amount of data because in 3D games there are always assets and textures that are far away and textures are oversampled. If you want to know what Series X is about, have a look.
But why is Sampler Feedback Streaming so important? I/O throughput.
As it is know, PS5 is theoretically faster than Series X, speed is, actually, the only technical advantage of PS5, which features I/O throughput up to 5.5GB/s (raw) / 8.5GB/s (compressed) while Series X I/O throughput is 2.4GB/s (raw) / 4.8GB/s (compressed). Sampler Feedback Streaming results in approximately 2.5x the effective I/O throughput (SSD performance) and memory usage above and beyond the hardware capabilities on average. In other words, it gives a speed boost till 6GB/s (raw) / 12GB/s (compressed) on Series X which makes Series X faster than PS5 in practical terms. Xbox Series X’s Sampler Feedback Streaming Is “An Absolute Game-Changer,” Says Developer
He isn’t trying to downplay it. He is just saying it, like everything else, has a cost associated with using it.
