Phil’s tweet about Sony signing an agreement is much different from the past. Before it seemed like they would bring other games on to that platform, now its only about COD.

Sony just lost a a huge chunk of future games and did themselves no favors to maintain a healthy business relationship.

It’s official. After all the posturing, Sony signs on the dotted line and gets the same deal that everyone else got, and the same deal that Microsoft offered at the very beginning. The annual best selling title remains on Playstation…with most of the proceeds going to Microsoft.

Imagine what that could fund?

An absolute defeat for Jimbo considering the first deal MS offered to them was for every franchise available on PS to be on it until 2027.

There are business reasons why some games will need to be on PlayStation. But I think that the less favours Xbox do for them the better now. Sony behave like they are the chosen ones but the world is shifting round them at a pace.

Imagine what that could fund? Even if they decide to put it all into a separate ABK bucket than the rest of XGS, they could totally revive old IP like Hexen or Arcanum, all while the CoD machine keeps turning.

Thats the funny part. Its not the same deal that Microsoft offered at the beginning.

I continue to stand behind the written agreement I sent you on January 31, 2022 with my signature memoralizing our commitment to Sony. The agreement would keep all existing Activision console titles on Sony, including future versions in the Call of Duty franchise or any other current Activision franchise on Sony, through December 31, 2027.

This was Phils offer to Jimmy Ryan. Bobby Kodick also offered to extend the marketing rights for another couple years.

Sony wanted nothing of this. Now they only got CoD for 10 years. Nice job, “the Art of the Deal” indeed.

What this really means to me is that Xbox is sticking around. For good. From 2013 to this, it has been such a huge decade and this is the perfect way to move into the next one.
