Simply put another way, if things were so rosy for Sony there wouldn’t be a “shift in strategy” but we’ve had two such shifts in less than four years. Sony isn’t happy, no amount of gaslighting or spin will change that.
Also, it should be noted that Nintendo very much had the same success with the handhelds and Wii software-wise, even before the switch. There’s a lot more historical evidence to support Nintendo’s first-party prowess but people only focus on the rare mid-performing title or two console gen stumbles where software also suffered: GameCube and WiiU.
You’re shitting me right? Literally one of the first things I said to you was correcting the “10% attach rate” because you were quite clearly combining the PS4 and PS5 unit sales while forgetting the massive overlap there would be there (which you ignored). I then followed that up with sales figures for some of the first party titles.
But yeah buddy, all I said was just “15m is a lot!”. You told me to learn to read whilst simultaneously not reading a word I’ve said apparently.
You proved with the 10M of TLOU2 that I was right about the ~10% attach ratio so what are you talking about?
The ~10% attach ratio is not only a fact for the cross-gen games but for the PS5 (and PS4) exclusives too, that’s why I said to you many times that you are uninformed on the matter. Do your research and then we’ll discuss this again because clearly your knowledge on the matter is lacking and you are indeed wasting my time.
I mean you’re just moving goalposts depending on which figures suit your point. Originally it was GoW Ragnarok with the ~10% attach rate, then I disproved that so you switched it to TLOU2.
Also, you claim the attach rate is ~10% for PS5 exclusives too. Spider-Man 2 sold 11 million units as per the last sales report. PS5 consoles sold is approximately sitting at around 60 million right now. As I’m so uninformed, could you “do your research” and give me the maths on what that makes the attach rate?
TLOU2 selling 10M after 2 years isn’t proving my point and is instead me moving goalposts? just admit that your example was wrong and move on. Also you conveniently forgot that TLOU2 and GOWR were heavily bundled but yeah it doesn’t suit your narrative so let’s forget about that too.
Also I said that it’s about ~10% attach rate overall for their games, it’s pretty clear that SM2 is doing better than that as other big games like Horizon and R&C are below that. That being said even their flagship titles like GOW and TLOU are around there too.
Also are you really trying to prove me wrong by pretending that SM2 is the common for Sony 1st party sales numbers? really? and it’s me that’s moving goalposts huh?
Pretty sure the Pro patch is mandatory after August/September 15th, 2024. I forgot which month.
Indiana Jones will 100% sell more copies on PlayStation 5 than Xbox Series X/S due to it being day one on Game Pass. Steam will sell the most copies in my opinion.
Are you sure it was Rebirth and not FF XVI? I played and completed Rebirth in Performance Mode. If it really was 720p, I sure as hell didn’t notice. Of course, im not a resolution guy. Rebirth looked amazing and I will always sacrifice resolution and visuals for a 60FPS mode.
Well…there’s my answer.
Spider Man 2 went over 11m units as of March 31st, 2024 and Horizon Forbidden West last sales update was over 8.4m units as of March 31st, 2023. Both will go past 20m before PlayStation 6 launches which is four years away. TLOUP2 is over 10m but unlike the other two games listed above or the original, TLOUP2 was very divisive.
Sony will get a massive lift in sales when they eventually go day one on PC which I believe will start with Spider Man 3 according to the Insomniac hack/leak.
Personally, I believe that Indiana Jones is releasing on PlayStation 5 because that’s the direction Microsoft is going in. Disney would have already known all the numbers and projections before agreeing to revise the contract from multi-platform to exclusive. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the contract still states for it to be exclusive.
While Nintendo’s sales are obviously better, there’s one detail that is always left out, what other games on Nintendo sell well if anything? Fact of the matter is that Sony’s games on PlayStation have way more competition than what Nintendo has on Switch. Nintendo’s consoles since Nintendo 64 have literally always been about Nintendo’s published games and well, that’s it. lol
I agree with this. Nintendo sales blow everyone away but what makes them more impressive is the insane profits Nintendo makes because they simply don’t spend the money Sony (or Microsoft) spends and they never take a loss on anything.
Sony could have better margins and higher profits if they were to cut down on the tech and visuals they use for their games but as seen with the PlayStation 5 Pro, they’re obviously not going to do that so their revenue will remain excellent but their profit margin will remain low.
Better to be uniform than wasting time to bad faith arguments/trolling.
Nintendo sales are on a whole other level if we take into consideration that they don’t do bundles often like Sony and they very rarely drop prices (and not to the extent of the other publishers) so every sale that we see is almost certainly near/at full price and not a bundled copy. So not only they do crazy numbers but those numbers are not at 15-25 euros, though Sony with the PS5 is trying to keep the prices higher for longer than last gen when they plummeted after a few months (especially at retail).
As someone that routinely pushes against ‘groupthink’ and isn’t afraid of the ‘twitter mob’… it’s always best to stick to the arguments. Once someone devolves into insults it will make your message get lost in the nonsense.
Make your point, defend your point. Yes people with weaker arguments will come at you with insults or childish memes but don’t get dragged into the mud. Keep receipts, then show them they were wrong later down the road.
You will rarely get much credit for being right and going against the group, even with receipts, but it will make you feel better about yourself and less frustrated. Being right is more of a personal triumph
That’s the frustrating thing, I just gave pushback on the quote that was made that Sony’s first party sales numbers “aren’t what they should be”, debated the numbers and reasoning as to why that’s not the case, then you’ve got a mod dropping snide remarks in between about “reality-deniers” and “gaslighting”. It just feels like discussion is only welcome here if it’s heavily anti-Sony, and this is supposed to be the PS5 OT. I cringe a little when I see posts like “guys look what this Sony fanboy said, such fanboy” because I’m sorry but this place is absolutely no different. It’s a shame to me because the actual content publishing here is very high quality.
Oh and apparently I’m now a troll with bad faith arguments. Because I stated that 15M sales is a good number and that 11M out of 60M is not a 10% attach rate. Lovely.
Inevitably once both sides have made their points things just start going in circles. Be the reasonable one and recognize that you have made your point and responded to all counterpoints therefore nothing more needs to be said until time itself proves you right.
