If you’re able to avoid going to the new firmware, you may wish to until they fix it - apparently a few games are having issues, particularly FF16:

Yet another Sony IP is being released on the Switch and PC: Freedom Wars. Not many goalposts left to shift before people realize Xbox was clearly right… which is why Sony is kicking and dragging their feet to slowly open the same gates. I guarantee you’re going to start seeing Sony content on Xbox, in less than five years… given how Sony has copied almost every part of the Xbox playbook years after Xbox sets the standard, only for Sony to get credit

While I agree with you in regards to Sony doing the same, I think it will be longer than 5 years and as for the copying Microsoft, you could argue that Freedom Wars and the Lego Horizon deals were made years ago before Microsoft started porting their games to Sony/Nintendo platforms. You could say that Sony was actually first but since no one knew about it and it wasn’t leaked or anything, Microsoft will continue to take the heat.

All I see are more goalposts shifted and excuses given, but I’ve been right about just about everything regarding the larger market trend, and almost every previous “red line” Sony fanboys have thrown out has already been crossed :man_shrugging:

DF special on the Pro was very unimpressive and also very unprofessional the silly knocks on FORZA were most unneeded and childlike.

FORZA is doing real-time raytracing all on cars at 60 FPS and unlike GT 7 is handling dynamic weather on every track with more cars on track, better damage models

All on a 4-year-old base console

Pretty typical for them - they seem to forget the people watching just want to know the improvement over the base PS5 and whether it’s worth it, they don’t care about Xbox games that aren’t on it.

But as usual Xbox gets dropped in as a way to console war - so many publications say “console wars are stupid” then actively encourage them for clicks and subs…

To support those new TVs, the One X also added 4k output and a 4K Blu-ray player. There was value even outside of better support for games! Not the case for ps5 pro

wow great point . I forgot the pro didn’t include 4k bluray player. Looking back the One X was insane value

Yea Xbox has the best value in gaming and until the PS5Pro comes out Xbox have had the most powerful hardware since 2017.

Problem is brand loyalty seems to over ride people sense of value especially when it comes to Sony.

If you removed the names and just listed out the hardware spec’s and features/ value for each platform/eco system Xbox would easily trounce PS, but a lot of gamers are just conditioned to Gaming = Sony, even if it’s not in their best interests as consumers to keep going down the Sony road.

It sad and silly better platforms get thrown aside due to near brain washing level of Brand loyalty Sony has been able to grow over the years.

Exactly. For example, if Indiana Jones runs at 1200p upscaled to 4K on PS5 base, it could run at 1440p upscaled to 4K and would now be considered ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’. Some third parties will put more work into it, but most will do the bare minimum since it will be a requirement to ship on PS5 going forward.

I actually doubt that. When Phil Spencer said he sees less exclusives in the industry I think he wasn’t just talking about Xbox but the industry in general. Sony has MLB already on Xbox. Death Stranding on the Xbox PC app and now Horizon Lego adventures going to Switch. I think they might want to hold on but, in this economy, the game industry has just been very weak. I think their last quarter had their profits mainly coming from their services. I think there is going to be big changes in the industry possibly starting nextgen that will ensure this as the route to go for them. One thing I’ve noticed is when Microsoft Xbox are always almost ahead of the curve even when it doesn’t seem like it makes sense.

I think people are too quick to label them as biased in most cases, but I don’t think they’ve helped themselves with the GT7 v FM comparisons at all. Glossing over the extra things FM is doing as you pointed out, in order to give GT7 “the win”, is a pretty annoying theme in their coverage so far.

I know it’s wrong and understandably so, but this nagging feeling of getting boosted like GT7 part gives me that lazy developer feeling. Trust me, I know that’s wrong, but the rub is really getting to me, so I had to say it.

The only interesting thing as a potential buyer of the PS5 Pro is how PS5 games run on it.

Forza Motorsport runs at 0p, 0 fps on the PS5 Pro.

That Pro price means I’ll likely pick up Sony stuff on PC rather than getting a Pro - I’ve had a PlayStation and an Xbox for the last two generations, but this is the first time I’m going to skip most likely.

If the Pro had been £100 less I’d have probably gone for it - instead, that price has made me pause and look at my options.

I’ve got my Series X for console gaming (and I love it), and I’ve got a PC in need of an upgrade - both are hooked up to my 4K TV (I use a controller and wireless mouse/keyboard for both).

The Nvidia 4070 Ti Super 16GB is now under £600 - I can get a new 3D cache Ryzen for around £200, a new motherboard for about £150 and 32GB of RAM (to match the new CPU and motherboard for speed) for £50.

I don’t need a new power supply (already overpowered) or SSDs etc. - so for me, for a bit under £1,000 (I was rounding up on prices) I can have a DLSS3.5 compatible graphics card that absolutely smashes the Pro’s performance and has enough VRAM for true 4K on some games (with DLSS on the other) and much, much better ray tracing than the Pro.

Even if I did need a new case, PSU and SSD, that’s still only about £200/£250 for a PC that absolutely trounces the Pro and will be relevant for years to come.

That’s why I think the price is so stupid, particularly the UK one - they have to hope there’s enough fanatics who won’t realise a PC (that can do a lot more, play a lot more games and play them all way better) can be put together for a bit more.

And by the time you’re spending that much money, you might as well go a bit further and get something that’ll last more than a few years…

It’s just such poor value for what’s in it compared to PC component prices…

Haha, I thought about adding that line.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you but let’s be honest, Microsoft porting an Indiana Jones and Doom The Dark Ages to PlayStation 5 is at a far higher level than Sony porting Freedom Wars or that Lego game to PC and Switch.

There IS a difference. Major AAA titles from Microsoft are releasing for PlayStation 5 but no major AAA title from Sony has released on Nintendo or Microsoft platforms. When I see a God of War or Uncharted or some other major top tier Sony IP on Xbox, then yes, they’re both equal but until that day, Sony doesn’t even want to port/release a Lego game (lol) on Xbox so im my mind, getting a God of War or something of that level is at least a decade away.

But hey, we’ll see what happens. I just don’t believe Sony will do everything that Microsoft is doing especially at the pace of Microsoft.

I see games like Minecraft/COD even out with MLB/Bungie so basically a 2-2 tie. Indy and Doom are far bigger than Freedom Wars/Lego Horizon and neither of them are releasing on Xbox. If Starfield gets ported to PlayStation 5 which I do believe will happen 100% because it’s easy money for Microsoft, you can’t say that it’s equal because look at what Sony is gaining from Microsoft -

  • Minecraft
  • Call of Duty
  • Doom: The Dark Ages
  • Indiana Jones
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Hi Fi Rush
  • As Dusk Falls
  • Grounded
  • Pentiment

While Microsoft gains the following -

  • MLB The Show (annual like COD but nowhere near the level of a COD)
  • Bungie’s games (better than MLB The Show but again, nowhere near the level of a COD and Doom is debatable)
  • Is there anything else? LOL

Let’s be honest, it’s not exactly a fair and even leveled comparison because it’s not. Sony porting two AA titles at best to PC/Switch day one while IGNORING Xbox tells me that if they don’t even want to give Microsoft the minor games, there’s no way in hell they’ll be porting a massive major title like God of War or Spider Man, etc.

So again, while I agree with you in the long term, right now, as someone who owns both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, im getting WAY MORE from Microsoft on my PlayStation 5 than I am from Sony on my Xbox Series X/S which I would like to believe that you would agree with me on this aspect because well, it’s factually accurate and true.

See above. I simply don’t see it as being at the same equal level. PlayStation 5 owners are getting major games from Microsoft while Sony gives MLB/Bungie in return but yet, don’t want to give Microsoft a Lego Horizon/Freedom Wars game(s) which tells me, there’s a far greater chance of seeing a Halo or Gears game on PlayStation long before seeing a God of War or Last of Us game on Xbox.

PlayStation is roughly 5 to 8 years behind where Microsoft is at. Their CEO saying “we love consoles, but yes we’re focusing on PC a lot” is what happened a while ago with Phil.
