No surprise. I was always expecting Sony to raise prices in April since March 31st ends their fiscal year. I’m also expecting Nintendo to follow suit sometime in April as well.
More expensive than the Series X now. If MS can somehow open the check books a bit and subsidize Helix enough next gen and Sony isn’t willing to do it as much anymore for PS6, we might be heading for a comeback!
even now with Series X and S, anything is possible!
Would be nice but I’m definitely preparing for a very high price. If Sony dares asking 900 euros for a Pro, I can’t help but fear a significantly higher price for Helix. But on the other hand….if they go bat shit crazy with price nobody will buy it.
But I’m soon going to start putting aside money on monthly basis for it. So it it really does launch in 2027 I can just get one.
Really starting to think it makes a lot of sense now for nintendo to release a switch tv. with no screen or battery, simpler housing, less packaging, could they get that price down to $300 USD? Or even remove the controller packin, could they get it down to $250? The cheapest console now is the series s at 400 USD? Have to think there is a market under 400 that would jump on a cheaper switch.
Casual gamer wants to play fortnite on the tv but not worth $400? a 250-300 switch tv could sell like crazy to that audience.
This concept isn’t new, but with xbox/ps console sticker shock going around, nintendo could really capitalize on it.
Microsoft is truly early for everything, why couldn’t they wait just as long to do their price hikes? anyway, hopefully Microsoft lowers the prices of Xbox now and manufactures more consoles, if only to get people who are still looking to upgrade to this generation (There are millions) a reasonable entry price.
I think because they produce in lower quantities, so they have less stock saved to ride out storms. Xbox is more vulnerable to economic condition changes if they’re expecting to sell less, so they make less consoles at a time. Then all of a sudden when they go to make more consoles they’re hit with the increased cost of production. That and Microsoft is definitely less of a hardware company than Sony, so they probably don’t give Xbox as much leeway to hold on pricing.
Oof and on a recent business call they were talking about more monetization of users.
Perhaps PlayStation is going to move more into subscription like Xbox with more day and date. Mat said that’s pretty much all that is booming and PlayStation do have the numbers to excel in it especially if the rumor of leaving PC is to be believed.
not a shot, they can’t make enough games
Rough week.
An important point for Xbox is that, at least the Series X, is just more expensive to manufacture because it has more costly parts. In a way, both at $500, The SX was more subsidized already.
Maybe but they can bankroll enough indies and double A’s. I believe Phil and many executives confirmed they were spending like a billion dollars for content. I just think with close to 100 million consoles they would certainly be flying high if they could get 50 to 70 million subscribing. In any case it’s the only thing that I can see appealing to shareholders if they are leaving PC.
I agree.
Hope Xbox doesn’t increase the price of the Series consoles & look to include a 3 months sub of GamePass Ultimate or a download code for Forza Horizon 6 with-in each new Xbox series console for a few months
To get some traction & take advantage of Sony’s move
Would MS have some strategic sense and try to take some losses on the Series S to coincide with GTA 6? Like, unless Sony has an exclusive bundle situation, try to do those, or at least just make the Series S an obvious, low-cost, by far the cheapest option for GTA 6 some other way. With no PC (or Switch 2) port likely until 2028, and PS5 raising prices, and MS potentially having more wiggle room in getting better part prices, make use of an opportunity that the market has given you…
Their strategy might be the “just for you” deals posted around to target Xbox One owners specifically. The digital Series X is actually significantly cheaper and approaching the launch series S price.

You’d think but who knows with Microsoft, they should at least try to get these prices down for GTA6’s release date, weren’t they supposed to manufacture like an extra 5 million consoles this year? Pretty sure that was being talked about a few weeks ago.
I’d like a GTA 6 wrap for my Xbox Series X.
Honestly I’m going to be buying three copies GTA 6. Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam (when it eventually comes to PC). Probably buy the collectors edition as well. Before you think this is insane, realize my son loves Rockstar games so some of these are going to be birthday and Christmas presents.
Por que no los dos?
I remember back in the day Xbox One gen I think, or maybe it was 360, not sure anymore, but they used to make unofficial bundles where you’d buy the console and they give you a game with it at launch. I don’t remember what game release it was, and I think it was a US thing only, but I do remember about it.
Was there ever confirmation though that GTA6 had an agreement with Sony for advertising? Wonder if MS could still go in and do something about it.
