Resident Evil Requiem | Review & OT

I’m a bit puzzled by the part about the Series version being merely okay, that it’s a thoroughly mediocre port.

In the review i mostly read it’s fine except that the models can have this waxy look at times, that PC and Pro don’t have. But apart from that I’m not reading much negative about the Series version?

Or did you expect it to have a bigger edge over base PS5?

Hehe, the real answer is Jesse didn’t fill out the pros/cons etc before he crashed, so I had to hazard an educated guess at what they were from his writing

I did fill them in after scheduling it, I forgot to save :oh_wow_think:

The port is fine, but smacks of copy/paste the ps5 settings over like all the modern Resident Evil titles

Oooh I see. Ok that makes a lot more sense.

Definitely curious about those cons though, because Capcom is usually pretty good at this stuff. The previous RE games were quite good in most aspects tech wise. Maybe the waxy look is a bug and they can fix it? I do hope Capcom used the consoles to their fullest because it sounds like they did a bang up job for PC and Pro. And Switch 2 in a way I guess, I read it’s quite impressive on handheld but jaggy as hell on a TV, I sure wouldn’t buy it for my S2 if I had one. (Unless I used it for handheld gaming a lot)

I thought I remembered RE4R having a significant edge either resolution or framerate wise on X over PS5?

They just lowered ps5 targets on Xbox to hit a more consistent 60, it rarely seems like they focus on Xbox ports for that series. You can see how well it goes when they do by looking at this game’s Switch 2 version.

That’s a damn shame. This the case with DMC5, DD2 and so on too? Because we probably can expect the same for Onimusha then.

Nah, depending on the team at Capcom things vary

Getting pretty close to the end. Solid game. Though at this point I don’t think it would make my top three RE games. But withholding judgement till it’s over.

Watching your review now but holy fuck, that was fast!!! I’m convinced that Jesse has a clone because I don’t know how the hell he reviews so much so fast.

The SX version of REmake 4 is quite a bit better than the PS5 version, IQ is sharper and there is no traversal stutter at all on the SX. I’d say that the slightly lower graphical settings that were introduced with the second graphical adjustment patch (it was the first patch that fucked up the graphics on the SX) on SX actually helped the game a lot with the performance especially when you enable RT, at launch it dropped frames quite hard and now it’s almost locked 60fps with RT on with slightly worse IQ than launch but still very good and definitely better than the PS5 version.

I agree that Requiem is a mediocre port for the Series consoles though, they didn’t take advantage of the Series consoles hardware at all. Still the game looks and runs excellent and it’s an amazing game so everyone who is interested in the series or want a high quality AAA experience should play this!

4 Remake, at launch, on Series X was a bad port with terrible-feeling controls. Hopefully they ‘fix’ Requiem’s issues in a similar manner.

Yeah I know, I was there at the demo and the launch too with the broken controls. Thank god Requiem plays well because REmake 4 was unplayable for almost 20 days after launch. At least now it’s just a completely unremarkable port on the SX and we don’t have to fight with our controller. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

But yeah I agree that most likely there is headroom for better graphical settings on the SX looking at the frame-rate.

Might be worth merging this thread with the OT in some way?

The game is amazing.

Going from Grace to Leon can throw you off gameplay wise, but apart from that, it’s an achievement. It’s like every Resident Evil since 7 build up to this.

Edit: Guys, tell me if you like OT for general discussion on a particular game here.

Having OT’s for games is great. It was the only thing I ever liked and enjoyed when I was on ResetEra and NeoGAF years ago.

Anyway, I downloaded RE Requiem but won’t be starting it until Sunday as I work tomorrow and at night, I’ll be watching WWE Elimination Chamber. Looking forward to playing it as it looks great.

Having OTs is up to the users, but I’d love to see more of it!
