The Game Awards 2023 |

I was in a party chat and I said this exact same thing. The salt must have been delicious..

XBox and SEGA truly smashed the Game Awards. If only XBox would announce a Series Pro model Life couldn’t get much better

If a Pro is coming, it’ll be announced very late. No company wants to undercut current console sales with people waiting to buy stronger hardware.

It felt like a great Xbox show, man they are learning.

Correct me but FM won more than TotK.

Remind me of that old meme with the kid being so excited and once he went back at the screen, his face flipped instantly. Excited first, downed next.

That’s kinda funny since everyone was saying that TOTK would sweep the awards lol

I’ve been watching some recaps, and tga is barely an awards show anymore lol.

Against my better judgement i watched the start of the show. My immediate thought was ā€˜i want Mixer back’. It looked soo bad. And i cant stand this Dorito Pope stuff any more. Turned off, went to sleep and watched all the trailers in 4k later in the morning with a nice cup of coffee.

Some good stuff was shown but also a lot of this is far away. Not a big deal, my backlog is ehm, …, lets not talk about it.

Do you think there will ever be a timer for Kojima?

Exactly.

There will be when he is giving an awards speech.

It’s a giant marketing exercise, always has been. Awards themselves are the same, though. A simulacrum of critique, but really just another marketing tool. Ditto for most mediums, frankly…

At the least awards carry some sense of serious thought. Game Awards drown that in marketing anyway.

Good show overall, though some bad pacing brought it down and I’d have preferred they gave more time to the award winners they just read out than a lot of the trailers we saw.

Hellblade 2, Blade reveal, and the Sega trailer were my highlights. B+ for the show.

I’m a big proponent of TGA and I like Geoff Keighley, but I think people calling this out has a point. I know it’s a timer, but they need to have a control room with an experienced producer or director able to make decisions in real-time as to when to delay the message and the ushering music.

I understand it’s a slippery slope. As soon as anyone gets ā€œspecial treatmentā€ there will be calls of bias and other nonsense, but that’s a risk you have to take in my opinion.

I’m sure that’s the kind of thing they can work out as they continue to adjust the system to improve things. I don’t think it’s right to make a big deal about it like he’s being insensitive or something when the timing was pre-defined and was the same for everyone though. It comes off as people look omg for stuff to drag him about.

Oh, that I agree with 100%. It likely wasn’t insensitive, it was probably just poor production.

Unless, of course, they do have that control room and producer, and they actively made the decision not to give Larian a few extra seconds. But that’s something none of us know anything about, and so shouldn’t be part of the criticism.

As with everything, it’s a learning experience. They’ve finally tightened security to avoid people rushing the stage, maybe in a year or two they’ll figure out a more dynamic speech timer. :man_shrugging:

I’m probably the only one here, but the game I was most excited to read about being announced is the world of goo sequel. The first one was amazing.

Catching up on the announcements, seems like that was probably the best TGA they’ve ever had, especially if you’re an Xbox fan
