I Hate All This Change. This is all Jon’s Fault, Right?

Yes.

Ouch. Did ya catch the license plate on the bus he was thrown under? So, is there any point where I have to remember to type day one instead of Xbox Era in the browser search bar?

Question,

With multiple podcasts and I’m sure X posts. Does the history of Nicholas repeatedly saying “I want Sony to die” cause any…… roadblocks

The name is growing on me. It’s a legit great name, it makes so much sense on so many levels.

I can’t wait for what you guys are cooking. You’re bringing good people too.

Will Nick be payed now ? And does it mean he will be allowed to do his Nintendo section for half of the show every week ? :philwins:

You guys are awesome. I’m Really happy to be part of this community.

I’m honestly happy to see you guys rebranding and shifting focus. With the way things are going in the industry, it always felt inevitable. Hopefully this helps you guys grow and continue to be one of the few non shit places to go for videogame coverage. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

End of an Era.

I think this is a good change overall and the rebranding looks cool! As someone who loves Xbox but also loves my Switch and PS5 it will be great to get gaming news from a source I trust.

Jon - nice work on the rebrand. I think it is great. Love the new name and the general shake up of things. The old name had two big problems and this solves both. Can’t wait to see what is to come.

Since your team is taking feedback, here is my one suggestion. Change to a 5 point review scale. The 100 point scale doesn’t work for so many reasons. Perfect time to change during this shake up.

5 point has no nuance. as is we’re on the 0/.5/1/1.5 through 10 scale and not a full 100 points.

I really can’t celebrate this. There’s already a trillion outlets dedicated to covering the other systems (or all of them at once). In fact the age of games journalism in and of itself is on a downward trend (IGN, Gamespot etc. aren’t what they used to be). Streamers and youtubers have taken over in that regard.

It’s just one more “here’s what we think about the latest PS5/Nintendo Switch games” opinion added to the algorithm. But I get, Xbox is flatlining. I have my opinion regarding that as well i.e. if Nintendo could weather the Wii U storm and come back stronger, MS could as well with Xbox. But do they have the motivation to do so? Probably not.

As long as u guys keep the same flavour and class ill continue to tag along to my most loved gaming spot.

Its a bold move, well timed though and i love the name.

The move to your own memberships is a great one - it’s always felt a bit disconnected to follow a link from your forum to your website and be hit with ads, so a seamless approach will be very welcome!

News from all platforms is already discussed anyway so while it feels “big”, in reality it won’t be a huge change for us, your fans - particularly as Xbox goes hybrid you’d already have likely started covering more PC games we can play including PlayStation published ones.

And that’s without taking into account the cross-platform publishing everyone’s starting to do now (apart from Nintendo - looking at their usual time lag we should see them publish elsewhere in about 15 to 20 years!).

Hopefully also being seen as less niche (as that’s apparently only OK for Ninty and PS sites :stuck_out_tongue:) will help with getting more review codes too after some surprising snubs - and help to build on your ever-expanding coverage and reach.

Congrats!

Looking good!

I especially hope the forum can become a bit more crowded again because it hasn’t really been that for a good minute now. During big game streams and shows you’d think the dedicated thread would be full of comments like the old days, but I’ve noticed it’s not. Is everyone on Discord nowadays?

Tried that, I find the whole UI of that too cluttered, so hopefully with this rebrand come a lot more people. It should, since y’all be covering everything. Which makes sense since Xbox went that route as well and at some point every new game by them will be.

I wish you all the best of luck! :flexed_biceps:t2:

Im totally sticking with you and appreciate the nervousness. But there is a small part of me that thinks this sort of encapsulates/facilitates the ongoing death of Xbox as a brand.

When even an Xbox specific fan website feels like it has to go multi platform to survive and thrive, no wonder Xbox did themselves. Its a bit chicken and egg but i feel the link is definitely there.

I joined here initially almost as a Resetera refugee…so frustrated that the platform was just getting a kicking there all the time. Part of the appeal here was it felt like a tiny, irrational act of “resistance”. As daft as that sounds.

I dont really want another “Like IGN, but better” website as there’s already a lot of those.

Good luck though. Fingers crossed.
