I like the idea and the name decided too, i remember mentioning this should have to be renamed to PCera or something like that a bit over a year ago, your name sounds better
Would be good if this brings some more users too, i think at this point being named “xbox” would only bring trolls
Not a fan, feels like it’s been forgotten what and why this place exists in the first place - an Xbox centric safe space for fans of Xbox to be fans of Xbox.
There are hundreds of "Day One"s out there but Xbox Era felt and was unique, one of a vanishing few.
Already seen it taken as yet another stick to beat Xbox fans with “even the fansites are going multiplatform” and I honestly don’t understand why this was deemed necessary (it’s money) but good luck to the team for the future and I hope it’s a success. It’s just not for me anymore, and that sucks.
I guess ultimately, what matters is the personalities and views of the people who write the reviews and news, and that isn’t changing. I’m glad to see the site transition away from the Era naming even though I never used that site, and I get the reason why it makes sense to be more game centric and not just platform. Congrats! I never have time to watch the full show and mostly just listen to headlines if I have time, and I appreciate the hard work you put in.
Think of it as a rebrand ING of the current community, not a shift of the focus. That’s how I see it - a group folk who came together to do good and are now aiming for wider and stronger good. We need more independence in games journalism and you have built something good here.
Also, if growth is what you need, growth only comes from doing the risky things.
I’m sticking with this place…my brother said I have to or he’ll stop game sharing with me. I’m just kidding…he didn’t. And he he totally wouldn’t…pretty sure he wouldn’t…yeah..
They had to get xbox out of their name and everyone wanted era out of the name. this accomplishes both.
This site can be very news focused at times. and they do a great job covering industry news. so no changes there. I just think, someone on the team playing nintendo/sony big hitters when they come out will just add to the industry coverage they are already doing.
So I don’t think a lot will change. Nick has always stayed up to date on nintendo and provided his thoughts on those games. And sony only releases an exclusive game or two a year. So prob more business as usual than you think.
There’s something people need to understand the approach from members here. I may not speak for them, but I believe I can see why.
The crew wanted to leave the name Era out. It’s similar to wrestling promotion before today, many branch off of NWA, so in this case, it’s Era. According to Jesse, they had this in mind for 5 years. Now what does it mean for the name Xbox? People compare to the likes of XboxTwo Podcast or those that associate with Xbox. The difference here is the crew is all in with this content.
Many podcasters are only working on podcast content and have their own job. Guys like Unlocked or Pure Xbox have parent company to back them out. Here, it’s basically themselves and we are the ones helping them out. The scope is much larger than others. Not to mention, this is the time where gaming have many news outlet. If this were to appear in the dawn of YouTube rise, they wouldn’t have this much of a challenge. I saw a post talked about how gaming view counts used to be incredibly high but now it’s lessened because of so many creators out there. Not to mention game trailers are now taken over by the official themselves. It’s not that easy let alone simple anymore.
I came to this site because of the community associated with Xbox. However, I was always a gamer in general. I just prefer Xbox above all and currently, feel they have the most interesting content to put out and stories, for better or worse. Besides, the community will stay the same; largely Xbox guys with some for other platforms here and there. It will be GAF, only and hopefully friendlier. It’s ResetEra but cooler.
To conclude, I welcome this change and will stay here for years to come. I hope everything works out and will continue to support. Congratulations. Best of luck!
The name change was probably necessary, so no surprise there. It’ll take some time getting used to it heh.
My only fear is that it will mean even less Xbox focus going forward. Yes, I am one of those who are into consoles and I already feel like an outsider here at times. Muh PC is not for me.
On the other hand, maybe PlayStation and Nintendo gets more coverage and not just the random PS PC port. It would be cool if it was more serious on that front.
Haven’t been on the forums in a long time, but kept following the podcast. I guess nothing is changing for me, hope you guys the best. Hopefully not Having Xbox in your name makes others in the industry less likely to dismiss you and your reviews now, hehe
Dont get me wrong. Im still in. But i worry that with broader appeal they’ll attract the sorts of idiot on Resetera that i tried to get away from in the first place. Having a definitive Xbox identity kept them away like a skunk’s spray.
It does feel like “Xbox specific” is disappearing but I think that’s for the better. Gaming consoles brought in this tribalism that has defined the market ever since, but it’s really stagnated with the market. It’s also gotten increasingly toxic as a result. New gamers in the industry don’t care and some really stubborn older gamers care way too much. From what I’ve seen of this community it is Xbox fans, but not really in tribalistic camp of people who live or die on things being as they were 20 years ago and take some weird pleasure in beating others down. There’s already threads and discussions for Nintendo and PlayStation and PC stuff. Xbox itself is trying hard to distance the brand from the “box wars”. Just like I hope branching out helps them grow, I hope the same for “Day One”.
I don’t disagree with the rebranding as it makes sense and doing your own memberships is actually better than going via Patreon. Must admit that I don’t like the name change. If it was up to me, I would have just changed the name to GamingEra. Simple. Easy. Gets the point across. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not going to change anything.
I am however looking forward to seeing your reviews of Nintendo and Sony published games and see them actually get critiqued like all games should but theirs rarely do.
Fuck no, getting away from the ‘era’ name was one of the main reasons I’ve wanted to rebrand for five years. It’s associated with two forums I want nothing to do with.
