We're REBRANDING | Welcome to DayOne!

Good vibes are the only reason I’m here at all. As long as that never changes I’m peachy :peach: myself.

And I learned that there was a Team Xbox website that closed down in 2018. I vaguely remember the logo, but I didn’t know it was a legit website. That’s why I didn’t get the reference in the post.

No worries.

Yeah I was a regular poster there since the launch of the 360, sadly it was bought by ign and they basically let the forum get taken over by bots until it was shut down for good. Lots of fond memories of that place.

I know I have been negative in the past and from time to time but man, GameArts takes the cake. I don’t think that guy is ever happy.

As an Xbox/PC main, the reason I joined this community and became a viewer of the Xbox Era Podcast was because I grew tired of the other Xbox/multiplatform podcasts being absolutely clueless of the Xbox ecosystem. When you have multiple games media/podcasts up in arms about a Call of Duty ad appearing on startup, despite having been a thing on Xbox for nearly half a decade at that point, you know they do not use the Xbox platform.

So from this standpoint, nothing is going to change with the rebrand for me given I know that the Day One crew prefers Xbox.

The main issue with most media outlets is they focus their reviews and impressions on the main version, which is often PlayStation. However, there is a benefit to being platform specific. When you listen to an Xbox podcast, there is a very good chance that the review/impression is from the perspective of an Xbox user, playing on Xbox hardware, using an Xbox controller, etc. As a result, if platform specific issues or benefits crop up, you will hear about them.

For example: “Does the game support quick resume?”, “Are the achievements busted?”, “Is the performance good/bad?”, “Is there input lag?”, etc.

I guess what I am trying to say is when a reviewer only plays the PlayStation/PC version, they may not know these are even issues/benefits on Xbox/Nintendo.

That is a bugbear for me too. I used to listen to a lot of Kinda Funny content and while the hosts weren’t hostile, it was often clear that they had never touched an Xbox and didn’t know anything about it. You know, some random thing like free cloud saves being built into the ecosystem would come up, and it would be new info that they were hearing for the first time.

I was really gratified when they started the Xcast with hosts that actually played on Xbox and could talk perceptively about it.

Thought of sharing this:

I know you know but this always ring true today and many won’t learn.

I definitely can see getting away from the “era” connection, there is a lot of toxic baggage there. No need to be associated with it. I am a little sad about dropping the “Xbox” part of the branding/focus though. However, I can see where it might be for the best. I mean other platform users/discussion should be welcome, and proper non-toxic viewpoints from the “other side” are necessary to grow.

With Xbox’s official move towards being multiplatform along with other storefronts on the system this may be on brand so to speak. I do wonder though if this rebranding might have been better off coinciding with the new Xbox’s official reveal and incorporating some of that energy whatever it ends up being.

More sensible people that love the medium coming here is only a good thing (I hope they’ll also post here in the forum, I am too much of a boomer for discord :stuck_out_tongue: ), the vast majority of both PS5 and Xbox software libraries are multiplatform games anyway so having more people to discuss and share our impressions/excitement about the games the better. I am getting really tired of the business side of gaming that dominates almost every discussion online…I know that this is what brings views nowadays and I can totally understand why people do it but I’d much rather talk or listen to other people talking about videogame mechanics and level design than a company’s financial reports (which we know very well that all it comes down at the end is console wars).

A ton of good software releases every month and we as a community don’t talk enough about them IMO, I know it’s all about the next big thing and the hype cycles in the last few years but it’s sad to see great games come and go like they are nothing.

I’m with you. I prefer the forum but I do read the discord. I don’t post but it is a good news feed. If all that activity was in this forum it would be a completely different place.

I’m also with you about business side of things. At least financially. if I hear someone say the word margin one more time, I might lose it. However, I do enjoy the next gen speculation discussions. That type of topic sticks around vs a game discussion that just comes and goes as people are onto the next new thing.

Hopefully more people do join the forum. Over the few months I have been posting here, it seems to have picked up a little bit.

I saw a recommended video (I didn’t click) on youtube trying to use the name change to make a point about Xbox supposed downfall.

It’s really crazy to me how much hate this site gets for absolutely no good reason.
