Me too. It was main show worthy honestly.
There was no option for 9/10 but 10 is too high it wasn’t that good. So I went with 8/10 because I truly enjoyed what I saw and a good 80/90% of the games interested me.
That was a great moment, but Baland Wonderworld is the one that did it for me. I would be legit pissed if that game skipped xbox, it looked utterly amazing imo
I’m in total agreement, especially when it comes to 343i. I’ve read every Halo book and it wasn’t really until 343 took over that the wider universe and lore was ever embedded in the games, more than cursory mentions (Terminals, for example). I also have been an FPS player for almost 3 decades and seeing so many takes of how Halo needs to remove sprint, or go back to “classic” movement/gameplay, I am just constantly flabbergasted. I can’t think of another series that their “fandom” is calling for a regression in mechanics and it’s frankly absurd; as someone who goes back and plays MCC regularly, the level design and movement/mechanics of the older titles (especially CE) are impossible to objectively say they are “better”, or that they would thrive in a market that has vastly moved on.
It would be around 7.5/10 for me, probably their best one in a long time with E3 2018, would’ve been a 9+ for me with these 2 things:
- Fable gameplay (it’s been in development for a good 3 years, wtf…), + gameplay in general
- 1-2 out of nowhere big surprises (something like a new Ninja Gaiden for example)
I feel like they just tried to match the Sony event, I expected them to go all in. Hopefully they kept a couple cool things for other events (REALLY curious to see The Initiative’s project, Compulsion).
The biggest meh/useless/frustrating moment: Ninja Theory’s HB2
I was fine with the Halo Infinite section, the CG trailer was incredible, and the gameplay looked fun.
Ultmately what it told me is Xbox will hit it stride somewhere around 2022-23, until then it MIGHT be a little light, we’ll see what else they got.
The Halo gatekeepers are a big problem imo, they have no idea what they want and they just complain all the time. The classic magnum and shotgun won’t be there at launch, omg let’s write 20 tweets about how catastrophic this is!!! -_-
Completely agree, and I consider myself one of the biggest fans of the series. I’ve stopped commenting on the subs and sites that are supposedly dedicated for Halo fans as I’m often seen as a pariah, but I’m a computer scientist and try my best not to let nostalgia taint what data states otherwise.
Yeah big fan also, since day one. Halo CE is in my top 3 best gaming memories/moments ever and it’s still my favorite. Seeing Halo Infinite draw a lot of inspiration from CE sounds great to me, and the idea of exploring Zeta Halo sounds incredible to me. I actually read Halo Mythos and I’m reading the Forerunner trilogy to get ready, hoping there’s a lot of hidden/optional lore.
I really don’t care what weapons are returning or not, if there’s sprint or not, etc. lol
You guys have clearly visited the Halo OT then. All we do is argue about Sprint and utility weapons in cycles, for eternity. ![]()
There is a lot more coming from Halo. Soon.
Nah mainly Twitter haha Don’t care enough to see more than that lol
I’m sure we’ll get a lot more, super excited for the game!
Yeah I agree that Game Pass is awesome and the number of games appearing day one is impressive.
Looking back, I was probably too harsh in saying they outright lied in their showcase since they did have that disclaimer. They just don’t need to be falling into these marketing missteps. Returning to the clear and strong messaging they had earlier in the year would do them wonders. Transparency is a problem industry wide so they could take advantage of it by rising above most publishers by being more upfront. All the videos and articles about their next gen game plans could and should be answered before launch. Many Xbox gamers are now adults and would appreciate the refreshing take on marketing their products imo. Hopefully they have more to show this month to get people even more excited while calming some doubts.
I agree with you completely. If anything, Crossfire X should have been shown before the disclaimer of every game being shown moving forward being on Game Pass day one. That would have solved any potential issue. But since they didn’t do that, again, I do agree.
Every game they showed will be on Game Pass. How that is anything lower than a 10 is beyond me.
It looked good, but what I am interested in for the most part is years away - Avowed and Fable
I think Halo could have looked a lot better and I wish that they had one game coming out this year that shower what the Xbox Series X could do graphically.
Honestly, if Halo Infinite looked as good or better than the previous trailers for the game and they had one other graphically impressive game launching with the console, this event would have been a home run. Not having a graphics powerhouse game to release with the console seems like a huge miss for XGS and Xbox Global Publishing.
I thought it was great. Halo is the only game releasing soon so I am fine with that being the only gameplay. I don’t like seeing too much of a game before it is released
It would be nice to see the alternate reality where covid didnt happen and e3 was a thing. Feel like Microsoft would have had a crazy showing
7/10 Too much cgi for me, but gets a decent score due to the games revealed genuinely interesting me.
I would’ve honestly loved to see what the show would’ve been if we didn’t have this pandemic.
I’ve also missed the presence of big third parties we usually see too.
And not been a fan of how the shows have been split up into parts and this whole summer of gaming, its not exciting and the viewership across the board has been pretty awful. (except the Sony stream and maybe the Xbox stream)
Hello everyone, first post here.
Honestly, 7/10 for me. I don’t care what the naysayers say, I was happy throughout the entire Halo trailer. Graphics will never be a thing that will make me crap on a fun looking game. And it looked damn fun to me, and it doesn’t even look “bad”, though it could use some improvement sure. As for the rest of the show though, I thought the game announcements were all great but echoing many here, I needed more from each game announced.
For reference, I’d give Sony’s showcase a 6. Ubisoft a 5. EA a 1. I just dont think anyone was particularly good this year. And then everything being so spread out made the mediocrity stand out more.
I usually rate these shows based on how many games they show I am personally interested as a release day purchase. I came from the Xbox show being highly interested in Halo and The Medium on launch day. As well as Avowed, Hellblade (an ill-advised showing here though) and Fable day 1 when they eventually come out down the road.
To improve,
-
I think Microsoft obviously needs more gameplay. I’m not going to separate CGI from “In-Engine”, or a cutscene “running on the console”, for me either it’s gameplay or it’s not gameplay.
-
I know it seems like we only care about First Party but I think it’s important to round your show out with AAA Third Party games as well. Like I think Resident Evil was a good get for the Sony show even though I’ll get it on Xbox. Microsoft’s marquee Third Party game was what? CrossfireX. That looked cool but they needed a bigger partnership than that.
-
Never have developers talk if there is no new trailer to show. I’ll leave it there, Ninja Theory.
-
Don’t waste time on Destiny DLC under any circumstances (maybe I’m still bitter about the shallow worlds and money-grubbiness of the first game)
7.5/10
Positives:
-
It showed that the future of Xbox is bright with investments into great new AAA games such as Avowed, and Fable.
-
Great full / timed exclusives such as As Dusk Falls, Tell me Why, Warhammer DarkTide, The Gunk, and Crossfire X. (Horror / darker titles don’t interest me as much but those timed exclusives will be great for fans of the genre)
-
Destiny 2 expansion launching day 1 was a MEGATON for me and many who love the game! (Hopefully the close relationship with Bungie And Xbox continues)
What could have made it a 9/10:
-
A better showing for Halo. As a Halo fan I’m very excited by the sandbox and the potential of the single player. Unfortunately the work in progress didn’t translate well to the demo.
-
Teaser for Initiative’s new game
My wish list for the long term:
-
Maintain the close relationship with Bungie! They’re a great studio with massive amounts of talent and seeing them “home” on Xbox and GamePass is awesome
-
A Japanese Xbox studio to give voice to the creative talent in the country
