This is a bad move imo. Xbox became even more attractive with the Activision purchase. Now makeing all these games multiplate again makes it less attractive if your on the fence. ( its still a great buy for gamepass alone) twitter is gonna be nasty today

Right there with you my friend. Throw in a sprinkle of that CD, Eidos, Avalanche, Crytek, WB, and Stoic then my meal is complete.
Make sure TR and Deus Ex IP comes too! ![]()
Activision news is unsurprising, they’re gonna have a lot of multiplayer games and it’s more important to retain a strong player base. We’ll still see exclusives out of this, we’ll still get it all on gamepass and I’m pretty confident Activision will be a better company under Microsoft. It’s a win win. But I will take this chance to double down on something I said elsewhere - if Microsoft wants to make a big move in Japan I think it’d be smart to follow a similar route to this. Offer some amount of platform autonomy, everything comes to Xbox and Gamepass but let developers continue to release ports for their games in Japan (but only Japan) on whatever console they want. Xbox is the least popular console there, you’re not suddenly gonna have the Persona fans rush out to buy an Xbox if Microsoft buys Sega or the Dragon Quest fans if they buy Square or whatever else. It’s gonna take time. If you continue releasing games there on other platforms you keep the Japanese fans invested in the franchise and you maintain goodwill with the developers and the Japanese gaming audience.
If this is how they will treat acquisitions, Japanese publishers should be excited to join Microsoft. Square Enix and Sega would be my picks so they ensure that all those games come to their platform.
They did not say every Activision-Blizzard game will be multiplatform which implies that any new IP and/or less popular title will be exclusive. Popular titles could refer to Overwatch and Diablo I guess.
Said it in the other thread but I’ve been supporting the idea of Japanese publishers under MS still being allowed on Switch, just because there’s still some really niche IPs being made from them that I feel can’t survive without the Switch audience. MS would still get those games on game pass, so I’d be happy.
And by the way, locking these releases to Japan only makes no sense. If a Western fan wants to play it on Switch they would just import it. Region locking is a dead fad.
If Microsoft is going to release already announced games like OW2 and Diablo IV this statement stays true.
I was always suspecting that COD stays in some form multiplatform.
They have never cancelled a game for a platform that’s already been announced.
The games that are going to be announced after the deal goes through is probably a hint to the future.
Anyone thinking OW2 and D4 were going to be exclusive were completely out of the loop, these games were announced as crossgens.
I knew that they have been announced. I was just wondering if Xbox would this time change their stance on this.
Now I can hope for GTA VI on Gamepass some day
MS may buy more big publishers now
Bring more to Gamepass
Heaven
If Microsoft didn’t even bother to cancel the exclusivity/3rd party publishing contracts and refund crowdfundings for Wasteland 3 and Psychonauts 2, they will surely not do with others.
Are you not a IOI fan???
It’s gonna be funny if sony buys a publisher like Square and they just don’t let any ff titles come to xbox. hell they are doing it now. but hey phils a nice guy
It’s all calculated
Zenimax games were within the calculation to make exclusive
COD and Big Blizzard games aren’t within the same calculation
Gamepass is within the calculation in every deal though
So…how many years before they buy Take 2 and EA ? I give it 10 years max.
Maybe MS should start buying more smaller independent studios to bypass the monopoly censorship and bring more exclusives to xbox & pc. I don’t care whether they’re 3A or 2A. Just miss the “world premier xbox exclusive” sounds
What makes you think Microsoft is going to stop making acquisitions and not leverage exclusivity as a result?
The ABK deal is definitely a one-off for Microsoft as they can still potentially buy ‘smaller’ publishers and treat them like Zenimax.
Microsoft could use this to get a Japanese publisher on board with this. Let’s say Square Enix or Sega.
I am….? It’s why I said add a sprinkling of those, @commanderbuck already had IOI in his list. I wouldn’t be caught dead without begging for IOI ![]()
