Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Look I wont object if Microsoft would go and buy those rights lol.

Microsoft should buy this so they can put the movies on Amazon Prime, Parmount+, Peacock, Disney+, and Netflix… and the games on Stadia and Amazon Luna and PSNow…

Amazon might get these IPs, imo MS should go for them.

Haha yupppp, noone knows what the fuck is happening, and probably wont know until the game is out. Hell, even then we might not.

I know people love the franchise but have the games ever been particularly huge enough to justify Microsoft even looking at this? Maybe if they could secure only the game rights but this seems to be a package deal, much more likely to go to WB or something. I mean I remember hearing a story when they were making the sequel to Shadow of Mordor. They were figuring out what they should call the sequel and the marketing department came back with the point that the games franchise would be more recognisable under “Shadow of…” than the actual Mordor part. Y’know, the part the screams LOTR. So they called the sequel Shadow of War. Anyway, I don’t think LOTR is so hot a gaming commodity to be worth it when they’ve got plenty fantasy franchises of their own as is.

And it all looks too well done. Like how did they do all that stuff ?? They’re is some crazy individuals behind that game, I’m pretty sure.

I say, let Amazon get the rights so they can do a show tie-in, and have MS pick up WB and allow Monolith to do whatever insanely-awesome thing they want to

  • Xbox has the biggest 1st party studio organization by far that will be focused on creating platform exclusive content.

  • They have at least 10 games from XGS Publishing partners in development, all of which are also to be platform exclusive, and some of which will probably lead to more studios joining the 1st party organization.

I’m seeing “Maybe Microsoft isn’t really committed to Xbox” type takes already. I can’t pronounce how ridiculous they are, especially when compared against all the facts I mentioned above.

Thank you! This is the type of concern that absolutely reads as bad-faith to me, and frankly I don’t know how it can be taken otherwise after Microsoft has spent $9 billion on acquisitions over the last four years, before Activision, with said studios producing exclusive Xbox ecosystem content.

Phil is in Japan acquiring Capcom and Sega to make it up to all of us. :relieved:

We have the topic for discussion about the blog post today, lets try to not shift that discussion over here while Sik writes his novel :doge:

Let’s also not forget:

Concerns about growth (which honestly I don’t understand how some pretend to care more about Xbox’s growth than MS)

  • ABK can still absolutely help grow Xbox, without much exclusivity. This is established already with marketing deals. On top of now being drivers for Game Pass. Some refuse to believe Game Pass drives console sales and platform growth and that’s because they’re still seeing things from the console war perspective (not saying they’re consoles warring).

Concerns about no more exclusives or 1st party growth

  • Nothing about this deal has indicated that before, and now it’s even moreso open that MS will acquire more studios and content for 1st party and exclusivity.

Microsoft are a flexible corporation when it comes to business models and platforms, even with games (perhaps that’s why they’re that big just a thought). Just like they dealt with Mojang, ABK might be another Mojang, only this time it would directly benifit Xbox as a platform too.

I just don’t get where those ideas come from. They’ve said COD and some other AB games will continue on playstation so that means xbox is becoming a 3rd party developer? It’s such a weird conclusion to draw especially when every other studios next announced game bar mojang(and possibly machine with indiana Jones) are making an xbox/pc exclusive. Also seeing a lot of comments they should have been clearer with their statement but what do people expect them to say? COD is staying multiplat but everything else is planned to be exclusive? That would defeat the purpose of the statement(which I presume is directed at regulators)

I hope it’s amazon; they are also doing a high-budget TV series

Just a joke

Crazy idea: Is Activision allowed to develop classic external ip exclusively on xbox? Like photo-realistic halo odst sequel from IW that feels like infinite warfare, or gears of war reboot from sledgehammer (rumor said they’re willing to make a tps), or fast paced & mp focused wolfenstein from 3arc?

New Rule:

No more publishers until we can figure out what we’re actually going to do with them.

But I’ll save my thoughts for the other thread once it opens.
