I saw Acme vs Coyote and it just baffled me how WBDiscovery gave that away during their parade of canceling projects to ā€œsave costsā€. Yeah they saved money so well that the entire company is getting bought by Paramount of all corporations. Paramount. And the better end would’ve been Netflix. Can you imagine? Netflix, that company that Blockbuster wouldn’t buy because they were too lame?? WB owns arguably the most iconic, legendary, and influential IP but they’ve spent the past decade being tossed around like someone’s used goods, being under increasingly worse leadership, and ultimately made decisions that prioritized looking good to shareholders & being frugal at the cost of their own future success. Cultural significance is more of a security blanket than actual safeguard. Everything falls when the people in charge get complacent and expect inertia to just carry them forward or that everything will turn out okay because it always has in the past & the people not in charge just let it happen thinking there’s nothing to be done. You can see parallels everywhere right now.

For Sony, it also probably doesn’t help that consoles just aren’t really ā€œthatā€ big of a customer base. Any comparison to Apple is kinda cruel. Playstation has ā€œcultural dominanceā€ but moves less product in 7 to 8 years than a new iPhone does in one. And there just hasn’t really been growth in new users. All things considered I imagine they’re panicking quite a bit at the current situation and forecasts. They can only really lower their own costs and charge their existing user base enough and hope that inertia pulls through (in other words they’re stuck in the very thinking that got the Jedi killed in Star Wars).

Look at this way: Sony can ā€œredeemā€ themselves with Wolverine. It’s a smart move.

Hopefully, hardest part of achieving that is probably Microsoft going all in though, the 360 was such a unique case and opportunity and they fumbled it all :man_facepalming:t3:

In my opinion, Asha just knows good optics.

They’re trying to claw back money that was spent on Concord and Bungie and the 6-8 cancelled GaaS projects and the rebooted fairgame$ and rebooted Horizon MMO and so many more GaaS projects that we never heard about.

It’s a shame that the Sony insiders have been keeping so quiet about it, in some attempt at protecting their precious Sony PS. Whatever is happening at Sony PS is so much worse than what we know publicly.

Wow!!! Didn’t see this coming.

Sony cancelling Physint and letting Kojima go is a shocker, no doubt and for the project to continue under Microsoft for Xbox is an even bigger shocker.

The only thing that could screw up this huge news would be is if the game still releases on PlayStation. Asha needs to make sure it’s console exclusive.

Gotta give Asha credit where it’s due. Getting this deal done is a massive and huge positive for Xbox.

Like WTF is happening at Sony? lol

I am not complaining though since I like Kojima’s games and if it ended up being a PS exclusive I would never play it because there’s no chance I’d get in on the worst gaming ecosystem ever again so pretty cool news overall!

They lost the plot, they litteraly offered it to Xbox.

Good job Asha and Xbox!

I still can’t believe it and slept through the night thinking, ā€œThe hell just happened?ā€

My guess is less than stellar sales on Death Stranding 2 and likely increasing costs on Kojima games combined to make this appear less viable as a Playstation exclusive. The question is - is Xbox planning on making this exclusive as a platform push, or are they just better positioned to take advantage of releasing it as a multiplat. Either way, going from Playstation exclusive to launching on xbox and likely game pass is a win.

Resetera is in shambles.

There’s a verified video game journalist saying he will never play the game now in the first page.

They genuinely believe it’s some kind of activism too

Wow, nuts.

I’ve seen a lot of PS people say this was their most desired game, Sony’s most important exclusive, the second coming, etc. I wonder what the opinion will be now.

Most importantly, Geoff Keighley is going to have to figure out a substitute GOTY!

Maybe I’m just being cynical but I feel like this doesn’t happen this way under the previous leadership, probably takes a few days or weeks or never happens. Asha certainly seems to be more in touch for some reason even though she has far less connection to the brand and fanbase, good, I’m looking forward to this, also bring DS2 to Xbox, gotta finish DS1 first though.

Random Thursday (for Europe at least ^^) megaton lol

Honestly, more than anything else this is a massive marketing move, with all the social media and the word of mouth talking about how Sony is fucking up incredibly hard, moves like this can be very good.

Not saying MS going multiplatform isn’t a viable move, but getting this to not make it exclusive would be dumb as fuck, hell even not milking this news a bit more would be dumb.

Xbox should just show OD at TGA with a date, even if it’s 2028, then after the announcement, follow up with this, both with ā€œXbox exclusiveā€ and with Kojima showing up, that’d be one of the most talked things from whats by far the biggest gaming show, one that even trascends gaming actually.

Personally I was not interested after hearing so much about it being movie stuff, so not sure what that means but it’s probably not gonna be a spiritual successor MGSV which is the only Kojima game I’d genuinely be interested in. I couldn’t even say that before because it would claimed because I’m hating because it’s PS exclusive, well now I’m free to have my opinion on it :joy:
