Yeah, just like with Microsoft Gaming & Xbox, xCloud is much better marketable than Microsoft Cloud Gaming (that sounds like some Azure division)
xCloud is obvious
Don’t know why they would go with anything else
The main problem is that the branding is not unified. But I guess it is the same problem they had when launching OG Xbox - Microsoft branding is too ingrained with corporate. However Xbox, xCloud are much more consumer friendly albeit not unified, unike Playstation, Playstation+, Playstation Now in comparison.
Because xCloud was never the name for the service it was a code name, like project Scorpio. The reason to not call it xCloud is if you went up to a non gamer and talked to them about xCloud and if they know what it is they would have no clue.
xCloud doesn’t exactly tell you what it is unless you’re a hardcore gamer, to be honest it is funny people say Microsoft are horrible at naming conventions but then say something like xCloud is good yet for business reasons it really isn’t.
Xbox, Xcloud…
Are you trying to say they’re easy tie together? Lol
Took em long enough
I think these names are more consumer friendly - simple and concise. And xCloud is a household name at this point - when talking about cloud gaming people talk about xCloud, xCloud and so on. Not about Xbox Cloud Gaming etc.
Oh you’re being serious, you actually think xCloud is a well known name by everyone…? Sure it’s known to us Xbox gamers who follow everything but to the people cloud gaming is going for they wouldn’t know what the hell xCloud is and it’s not even remotely a household name.
xCloud is more well know than cloud gaming. I think even when launched in beta with xCloud naming.
And overall, the simpler name the better. Google Stadia, PS Now, Amazon Luna. Xbox Cloud Gaming? Too corporate.
The mainstream name for Xcloud is “Gamepass app”. As in “hey how do I play Xbox on your new tv? Open the Gamepass app”.
Edit: nevermind Samsung literally just calls it Xbox App. This is the most straightforward name possible. No normie will ever need to know anything about Xcloud, Xbox cloud, or even Gamepass. 10/10 by Xbox marketing team.
It also makes future price rises more palatable. Just one dollar each per month extra for all this extra content!
Game Pass has gained mainstream recognition for sure. Even PS+ tiers are called Playstation Game Pass by media and regular folks.
Yeah, so many things become easy to tie together, just follow the pattern:
- XBox
- XCloud
- XController
- XPC
- XTablet
- XPhone
- XGame
- XTShirt
- XPet
- XFood
- XDrink
- XThing

That emoticon makes me think you’re just being facetious, but we all know of a company that likes to use an i instead of an x, and there’s no doubt in my mind people tend to think of that company when a product uses that convention, even if it’s not actually by that company.
Then again, maybe that was your point. I can’t tell.
