I think Microsoft needs to vastly improve it’s window store if they want to gain traction in the pc market. I think many have been burned by the window store, so there’s still a lot of work to be done to get PC market attention for gamepass.
There is room for improvement, but I think a 159% growth is not something to scoff at.
That could be 10 subs that are now 26 though… ![]()
I was just invited onto Boomstick’s X-Vlog podcast again this Thursday at noon EDT. Should be fun!
Windows store had a lot of promise at launch. It’s the reason Steam went all in on Linux. I think some people just assumed Windows Store was going to be the default PC store or at least that was a fear at the time for Steam who was dominate but also unchallenged back then.
Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard is a nice shake up to the industry as Steam was getting complacent in the idea of market dominance after successfully fending off Windows Store and Epic Store.
I’m not that locked in on PC topics though, so these are just my musings from afar.
I used to be a PC gamer until 2018. The main issue with windows store seemed to be UWP is a mess and had ton of issues compared to other storefronts. I am unsure if they fixed those issue, but there seems to be a lot of backend stuff they need to fix to compete with other storefronts. Anyways, if they can sort that out then maybe they can attract a huge market of PC gamers since blizzard is very strong in PC marketplace and that Riot deal is pretty huge because I remember back when I was into LoL it cost like $1000+ to get all characters
Nothing really new but it’s a good interview
Yeah Phil said he saw more of Fable and he is excited about it
Bro what?
I dont care .if it matters that much to you on twitter IDK what to say about you.
I use the MS store and Xbox app on Windows from time to time and I can say it vastly improved in the last year or so, in both performance and UI. I’m sure my experience is limited though as I don’t download heavy games or that many apps, but relative to my previous experience, it’s definitely getting better.
Listening to the part about feedback from 1st party teams, it only just hit me with having all these 1st party studios that are very talented means they would be getting a load of good feedback on what to focus their next console efforts on. When they had 5 studios they wouldn’t have many studios that are in house to ask these sorts of questions and would’ve had to ask 3rd party devs which they still would do now but having all these teams in house they can start it much earlier without having to worry about stuff leaking out of 3rd party.
Also how did they manage to get a nearly 1 hour in person interview like that Oo
Having many talented teams collaborating and feeding back to each other at a level closest to the platform/development side is definitely one reason why 1st party tends to have better optimizations and technical advancements. It’s exciting to see what the jump from 5 studios to 20+ would do in that regard, you would now have a pool of expertise that should hypothetically be able to solve problems at near all facilities of game development granted collaboration is enabled internally, systemically, which it seems like it, as expected.
That’s hilarious.
Its wild, we can see live how this thing spirals down the drain. And if i was working at Twitter my resume would be out weeks ago.
What a great start.
this is a great interview, and i found the hosts really naturally charming.
also, neat thing about developing the xbox controllers in included; they have larger models, scaled up, to allow devs and hardware designers to experience what the controller feels like for someone who is younger and has smaller hands.
that’s awesome design engineering that makes loads of sense but is something i will have never thought about, as someone outside of the industry.
It’s better to keep status quo than to make a competitor create something to take market share from COD. However, gamepass day one will be key for Microsoft because would you rather pay $70 for COD or sub to gamepass and get access to COD and other games. Plus Microsoft could always put COD perks in GPU perks like there are people that buy snacks just to get a code for COD skins
