XboxEra's 2026 Backlog Challenge |OT| Same procedure as every year, James

the game was definitely better than i expected and pretty polished for a debut console indie game. would recommend if its on sale. achievements are all story based for those who care about this stuff.

Final Fantasy (Pixel Remaster) +0

Damn Game Pass made me try Final Fantasy… Got hooked! It’s obviously old af but an incredibly charming game. The music, the epic feeling despite its simplicity and the fun turn based combat really is special. I enjoyed it so much that I spent way too much time getting a 1000GS out of it

It also inspired me to buy…

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade -1 which was a great deal as it also came with a copy of the Final Fantasy VII remaster -1

Not great for the leaderboard this week, but ah well.

Nice!!! How long did this take you to complete? Thanks.

Maybe 6 hours or so? It’s hard to say, I didn’t do it all in a row but hopped around a lot between Brooklyn and DC doing different stuff. The story missions seemed shorter than Warlords of New York though.

Okay, thanks.

Another week, another update! Nice to see so many participate this year, with yet another addition this week with @profjjj returning. Keep up the good work and dig deep in the backlog everyone

+0 Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island (Game Pass)

Instead of tackling my backlog I’ve continued this year’s theme it seems of getting through indies on Game Pass.

Another brilliant little game, it’s cosy and with no danger so can just chill out and complete the (very very simple) puzzles, talk to everyone (the Greek gods who’ve forgotten who they are) and help them to recover their memories, improve the island and solve the mystery of what’s happened to them and the island.

Between the educational little lore notes, the lovely warm graphics with fun little details (Hades is a slightly emo guy with a DED hoodie on for example lol) and the tasks which never seem like work or too repetitive, I don’t hesitate in recommending it - I 100%'d it and took my time, think I reached 25/26 in-game days and probably about 10 to 20 hours played, and it didn’t overstay its welcome.

Only thing to note is achievements aren’t popping on the PC version - dev is aware so expect a patch soon that’ll unlock them, but it’s Play Anywhere so I’m going to boot it up on my Xbox to see if they’ll pop.

Not worried even if I had to play it through again though!

I’ve been meaning to check this one out. Glad to hear that you liked it.

Nice! I seem to have missed this one, on the Play Later list it goes! (Nice GP feature that btw).

+1 Resident Evil Village. Not played Resi for years. Fun and batshit mental, though a bit easy generally and think I prefer the older camera styles, either fixed or 3rd person.

+1 Avowed. Finally finished. I really enjoyed it, but towards the end found the combat dragged, so took me ages to finish it off. It all got a bit repetitive. But for the vast majority of the time the music, art, characters and feel were great. I really liked exploring, the platforming, the quests were generally good, and the world looks great. Combat varied but as I said, dragged at the end. Overall, a really good game. A sequel could be incredible.

Mafia: The old Country

Enjoyed this one a lot. I was told it was very short, but honestly it didn’t feel that way to me at all. I did encounter a game ending bug in chapter 10 and had to replay the story again, but I did and I’m glad I decided against watching the rest on YouTube, because I wouldn’t have wanted to not experience it for myself.

Oh wait, I think I should just write +1 then, correct?

Correct

Glad you liked it! I picked it up over christmas as well, should get around to it soon™. Hope I don’t run into that bug!

Puzzle game where you play as a penguin moving ice blocks into specific positions on gridbased levels. Simple in its design but decently challenging for the ol’ brain at times, lots of levels and perfect for podcasts.

+1 A Normal Lost Phone

Short and sweet, took me an hour or two.

You find an unlocked phone, and search it to see who to return it to - the mystery deepens quickly, with a few scenarios becoming possible, but as you puzzle out certain passwords etc using clues and viewing everything, you finally reach the truth.

Also just to note for anyone outside the USA (like me) the dates are US format!

Clever format (they created a sequel also in my backlog which I’m now looking forward to) and an emotional but intriguing game that you’ll finish in one playthrough as it draws you in.

Another one I recommend, and it’s pennies on Cdkeys / Loaded if anyone’s interested!
